Have you noticed any racism in the bible or any other holy book? Or perhaps a political figure said something that was a bit racist? Where are some places and people that you would expect to find racist comments from?

I don't believe in Racism.

That made me laugh. You don't believe in racism. Okay. That's like me saying that I don't believe in dirt, or that lawns aren't genereally green. You can go outside, into any southern, northern, western or eastern part of the US and find racism rampant. WE HAVE DIFFERENT PARTS OF OUR CITIES SET OFF FOR DIFFERENT RACES!!! Saying that racism doesn't exist is so, so, so..... GAAAAHHHHHHH! Let me just ask, have you ever heard of Martin Luther King Jr? What about enslavement of blacks? The Nazi Party? KKK? Honestly, please, don't be an idiot.

This overall seems like just a trolling type subject to get people up in arms.

quite frankly racism exist in everything that has anything to do with human nature. Once upon a time it was very relevant to our society (in so far as identifying with the correct tribes).

However, just people there are individual factions in politics, religions, and really any walk of life that are wretched people with backwards beliefs. However, that makes that individual wretched, not necessarily the entire entity.

Yeah Valkarie... even though I think facepalms are stupid... that's as deserving of one as I've ever seen. Avorne, since I also don't believe in links, why don't you list some of these... racisms. Oh dear that's not a word...

/facepalm was deleted. /facepalm

I never said I don't believe that racism exists, but I believe racism is just a fancy word for hating your brother.

Alright then, I'll list the main/relevant content of the article here, forgive me if this feels a bit long but I'm sure the pay-off will be worth it:

Christianity
Overall, Christianity generally promotes tolerance. Numerous quotes in the New Testament speak to the equality of all human "races". (The Old Testament is another matter.) Christianity has historically found itself harnessed by racists, and although usually they represent small sects of the population (e.g., the Ku Klux Klan), at times Christian leaders have promoted large scale racism, such as slavery in the American South, which was fully aided and abetted by the religious institutions there.

Galatians 3:28 - "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

Mormonism
In the Book of Mormon, great stock is placed in skin color. The godly Nephites are a "fair and wholesome" people, while the disobedient Lamanites are given dark skin as a curse for their oppression of the Nephites. Later in the book, some of the Lamanites repent, and their skin miraculously becomes fair and wholesome again. As recently as 1978, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints refused to give African-Americans the keys to the Aaronite Priesthood.

Buddhism
A Buddhist came upon a race. He walked the other way, in order to be sure to avoid winning.

Judaism
Although the Jewish or Hebrew "race" has regarded itself as "special", or "chosen", their general outlook is one of high tolerance for other peoples (at least since the Pentateuch was written). Some people do consider conditions in modern day Israel to be an example of anti-Arab racism, but the point is open to debate, and even if agreed upon, the causes arguably lie outside Judaism itself and are more political than religious.

Leviticus 19:33-34 - " 'When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him. The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt. I am the LORD your God."

Islam
Apparently, Muslims do not care what "race" you are, as long as you accept Allah as the one and only God, and Mohammed as His prophet, or are one of the People of the Book. In the absence of such acceptance, the more fundamentalist sects do not regard you as worth allowing to live, whatever your "race".

Hinduism
Hinduism has an inbred racist element in it's caste system, which was originally created to segregate races, and now serves to create artificial divides between people of the same race. The caste system has caused untold suffering in India, dooming millions to misery simply because of the station of their birth. Thank the British East India Company for spreading it so you can enjoy that tea! Another time that race and Hinduism seem to intersect is in the idea of conversion. Many traditional Hindus feel that non-Indians should not be able to convert to Hinduism; this can be seen as discrimination and racism.

Neopaganism
While neopaganism tries very hard to be a vast fluffy-bunny, very open-ended "religion", the 800 pound gorilla in the room is the fact that many neo-Nazis use Neopaganism, especially Germanic (Norse) and Celtic varieties as a religious cover for their horrible racism. While there is always a dispute between the racists and the hippies, the racist connotations are very difficult to shake, thanks in large part to the significant amounts of pagan symbolism (as well as knock-offs of the same) used as Nazi propaganda. One example of a neopagan who has been heavily criticised for his views on race is Lee Barnes.

Just to add to that, if I may talk about Government-sponsored racism, then the segregation of black people and white people was a historical example and arguably continues today in parts of South Africa in a different capacity.

Well I have two comments on it, not to mention thanks Avorne for the post. First, I would just mention that Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, was a confirmed racist and aryan. Second, you should at least check out a book called Rising Road, which has an interesting take on the Ku Klux Klan and christianity.

Yes, that was was probably just there as a bit of a filler, there isn't really much to say about Buddhists and racism I don't think.

In the bible there is SO much racism. as a quick example there is lots of genocide in Joshua such as

JOSHUA 6:21-27 â" Under Godâs direction, Joshua destroyed the entire city of Jerichoâ¦men, women and childrenâ¦with the edge of the sword. They pillaged the silver, gold, bronze and iron for God and burned the city.
