I often wonder what people think of PC. I know nowadays people try to be a lot more PC then past times.

Yes but my point still remains, until it is officially changed, it is considered bad grammar.
What do you consider official?

You really think so?
I'm not sure. I'll have to think about it. I definitely see where you're coming from on the laziness. I'd also argue that it creates a hostile environment for homosexuals in many cases. Perhaps not so much in real life (I wouldn't know), but in school and stuff.

Wait, so now slang is official? That means your example of gay was correct.

Sorry for the double post, I'm kinda tired. To clarify(as I'm not sure what that means), the use of gay you say is grammatically incorrect is correct if slang is counted.

According to wikipedia

Slang is the use of informal words and expressions that are not considered standard in the speaker's dialect or language.

That would make both gay and retard slang, making both not fit your requirement of official even if one has been recognized as slang.

Okay. For retarded I'm sorry to say, but retarded people won't give a flying crap if you use the word. They've got rather pre-occupied lives, so clearly others will call you out on it.
If they do, I normally don't fight back. I mean, I say it here and there, and usually it's fine. I steer clear of it when I'm around someone with such a disability, or anything, or if someone asks me to. Not because I feel that I shouldn't use the word, I just have an inner respect for that sort of stuff.

As for gay, -- the word is part of modern society. Like, seriously, if someone called me out on something and said 'omg so buttsex?' I'd just find them annoying or think they're one of those insane liberal pro-gays-for-life kinda guys.

Language is language, grammar is complex but when spoken with the human tongue it is part of society and society will dictate what it does. Political correctness exists for people who want to be politically noticed. Nobody will listen to you if you slam nasty language across the board. If you're just talking, then you're going to talk.

Just like any other word. The N-Word or the F-Bomb. Used anywhere, everywhere, on ANYTHING.

I also call it out because I am a smartass.

Then more power to you.

It's kind of like ***got. I don't know how that came to mean the same thing as gay, when it means a bundle of sticks...

About the picture, now he's the "veggie monster"
But yeah, people get a little ridiculous with &quotolitical correctness"
Probably why little kids today are so spoiled.
50 years ago:
kid: mommy, I want it!
Mom: ... *backhand*
dad: *reading paper* listen to your mother.

now:
kid:mommy, I want it!
mom: okay
kid:get me another!...Now!
dad: Yes, master! Please don't hurt me!

Politically correctness started back in the medieval days. With kings and knights having code of chivalry started this mess. Political correctness were first manners now they are just excuses not to judge people. Yes labeling people is hurtful and wrong but people these days are taking it too far.

The people who take issue with being called retarded is rarely the retarded person but the people around them.

That makes it any more right? Again I will say it again, don't be offended by homosexual slurs if you yourself use other derogatory remarks to others.

I always think the intent not the content is often what distinguishes actual homophobes from the verbally challenged. I remember when I was at primary school in London in the early-mid 90s, before 'gay' was the word used. Instead people said 'Albanian'. Don't even ask me why. Anyway, there was an Albanian kid who used it in much the same way as we all did, and no he wasn't a closet Albanian. I just think 'gay' has permeated the minds of the masses as an ok word to use to describe something they don't like. It's not good that it's become accepted, but I think it's a minor issue for people campaigning about gay rights in the grand scheme of things.
