To avoid so many duplicate threads, please place your ideas and thoughts on a live chat system here.
Initially, we weren't going to do a live chat, but enough users asked for it that Dan has agreed, and we'll add a live chat to the system AFTER we launch AG3. It will NOT be part of the AG3 launch.
Ideas that others have suggested: - custom channels - password-protected channels - kick/ban controls - moderation controls - report a user
We don't know yet if the chat will be Flash based, Java based, or something else.
I think the users that put live chat are looking for uses that use it to get into verbal fights with each other, it has to be a bad thing because it is not monatered from what i know, it show be banned from the site
What makes you think that? Besides, there is currently no chat, and the way to monitor chat has not been determined yet.
There are pro's and con's to live chat. I was wondering, would it be a side panel, that showed on every game, like on Kongregate? Or would it be on the navigation bar. If I were to use it, (which I probably won't) I would want it as a side panel on every game.
That's true, but I think he means that It would stop people from putting those. When I see them, they usually put at least one of the real letters, which helps you to spell the word. It could block all swearing and blocked swearing. I think that is what he meant.
I'm wondering, will this replace the need for the community threads? A live chat will certainly be very useful if I get stuck in a game and instead of aborting and losing a possible decent score I can ask for help.
Of course I'm talking about help that hasn't been covered from the game developer's introduction.
footnote: I'm taking for granted that we will no longer have the community forum section for the games discussion, walk-throughs, etc if the games clans idea is implemented.

There will still be forums, but the forums will be different.

In a live chat, you'd be somewhat limited to the people currently in the chatbox to give you your answer, and you'll have to stay there for a while if you want an answer and nobody's there to help you. And then if someone gives a solution after you leave, you'll never see it.
The forums aren't limited in those ways. You can post something here, and even if nobody replies in time for you to keep your score, there will most likely still be an answer within a few days' time that you'll be able to see.
But it's hard to say now how many people will actually be live on the chat at once. When I say "live" I'm not counting those people who just sit there idly as though they're actually doing something else.

Hmmm I see your point and when the chatroom empties out like the community threads do you could be waiting for a long time indeed.
That's ok, live chat will still have many other uses, I just can't seem to think of any right now. That's funny, I just illustrated another problem with live chat that all ties back in to what you said Ernie. Even though you might actually have a friendly user "a-live" in the chatroom isn't a guarantee that they'll be fully awake or alert enough to help you even if they "just happen" to know the answer to your question.
don't know if somebody has got to this but can we post a live chat room for every game to replace the game feedback cause' its kind of hard to agree with another user with the actual game feedback. Or maybe we could add a feedback to every user page and link it to game feedback so we can notify a user that we liked his comment and why. Please tell me if i'm making any sense at all.

They mentioned they'll have specific page dedicated to the chats, but they didn't turn down the ideas of dragging the chat box around the site with you or having it next to the games.
And we could add some kind of inbox button which will say something like "you have # messages" or whatever.
Won't be necessary. On this chat I assume they'll have a public and private chat; public for everyone to talk to and you can receive private messages and send them while on the same chat - a new tab next to the public chat will pop up with the users name. Visit a Xat chat room for visual aid.
Only if they consider adding chat mods. There are currently two active mods on the site, I imagine a lot of gamers and the current forumers using the chats to communicate with each other. If there are no mods to monitor the chats then they'll turn out bad - imagine this forum without mods. That's assuming if many people use them and they make multiple chats. If there's just one chat and not many people use it then they wouldn't need much moderation. I'm sure the current mods could handle it.
