According to christianity:
- men have free will. This is what they often say trying to justify the presence of evil on earth.
- god knows future. That's obvious because he is omniscient, and there are cases of him predicting future as well, such as the when jesus says that judas will betray him.
But these two elements are a little contradictory. Let's say I have a decision to make. God knows what choice I'll make before I do it. So, I can't take the other choice since that would mean that god was wrong.
In other words, if god knows what will happen in the future, it means that everything is already decided by god and we have no way to change it.
So, how aren't free will and omniscience in contradiction?

sorry i dont want to read this since i dont care that much XD. but i think a nice explanation would be this: god doesnt meddle with what is happening here and with our decisions because if he would this place would BE heaven. the decisions we make will bring us to heaven or hell. just a theory though

Have you thought that this "God" you speak of can see all the different results for every different choice you could make. Then your two point above can mesh. In other word "God" see many futures all at the same time.

Then God could still be wrong and thus not omniscient when predicting which choices will be made.

If "God" predictes the chocies and not just see where all options lead. Not that I really care if the two point match up or not.

God can see exactly who we are and what choices we would make in a certain situation. He can see the situation coming up and knows what we would do. We can choose whichever one we want but we will choose a specific one because of who we are and god knows who we are. Hypothetically.

wikipedia says: Some modern theologians argue that God's omniscience is inherent rather than total, and that God chooses to limit his omniscience in order to preserve the freewill and dignity of his creatures

I don't see why people expect that if you ask God to make your life perfect he will. It's like a child going up to his/her parent and asking why they don't stop them from getting hurt. It doesn't make sense. For there to be good there must be evil. For there to be love there must be hate. Unfortunatly it's true. The fact is that these things are there and you can't pretend they don't exist but try to reduce them. Try to reduce pollution, war, torture, ect... Just because someone has alot of power doesn't mean that they should simply solve all your problems. If humans couldn't use our brains to solve our own problems then where would we be?

This isn't the issue at hand.

Just because someone has alot of power doesn't mean that they should simply solve all your problems. If humans couldn't use our brains to solve our own problems then where would we be?

Way to miss the point. Reread the OP.

dair, you're a christian right and so you believe that god made the universe from nothing. Since god is all good he must've had to create evil. Why did he do that. If god is omnipotent he should be able to overcome those rules.
