I don't really see why this pisses you off. So they monitor the phones of people they suspect might be terrorists. Whoop de doop, they know your shopping list! Or they check you gun records! OH noes! They are in order! The only reason you should have a problem with this is if you're doing something you don't want anyone to find out about.
As for airline scanning, all it takes is one person and they can easily kill 100, so yeah, it's a good idea to scan everyone. Sure it can be annoying, but would you rather die? Any experienced flyer knows what sets off the thing and what doesn't, going through is no problem then. It's the idiots who clog it up by wearing something that sets it off that slows it down.

So not knowing what makes those things go off makes you an idiot?
I don't know about you, but I don't know what sets them off, and the only way to know is to fly a lot. Again, I don't know about you, but I sure don't.

Well unless you're like 5 or have never flown before.
I don't know what sets them off,
Metal...? Also if they find any large amount of liquid in your suitcase, or a suspicious looking electronic device, they will pull it out to look at it (Or in the case of liquid dispose of it) but even that is far less time consuming than the whole wanding procedure.
Again, I don't know about you,
Well, I do fly a lot, my dad is a pilot and we travel via airplane a lot, so I suppose i'm a bit biased in knowing about it.
I read the Wikipedia page, and I really don't think that in this media age that something like this could work in a functioning democratic society. The Patriot Act is there for your own good. If someone doesn't like it, then maybe they would prefer to be on the next plane that explodes because the gov't wasn't allowed to wiretap potential terrorists.
