We are better off now that say hundreds of yeras ago obviously and I think that say over the last decade it is mixed. We have more technological advances but there was the recession too.

We have, of course, advanced technologically greatly, but I also have a feeling that we have become lazy. Test scores aren't what they used to be, there is poverty, holes in the ozone, and disasters that still affect us. Even though we may be better off than we were years ago, we are still a long shot from perfect. But who knows, maybe things will get better.

This could be partially due to new course work/not being able to keep up. 50 years ago, once you'd gone through school, when your kids were in school, you knew most of the course work. Now, kids are learning things earlier and new things that weren't even taught before, so they can't get help from parents. Plus there's more material over all.

It could be that, or it could be that some kids just don't simply care about what the heck their grades are. Fortunately, the world is not run by those people, or we'd all be dead.
