I made a Youtube account a while ago and wanted to upload some videos I took from my camera. They are saved in the .AVI format and basically, I'm looking for a free converter to re-format them into mp4 or flv. Thanks

Thanks! I'll be sure to try it out. I'll post if it works...

It should work. I had to use it to change video files too because of the same problem you had.

Well if you want a very simple .avi to mp4 converter then you could also try

^I actually tried that one, but it didn't seem to work. It would say..."converting..." and then a few seconds later "Unable to convert"
That's not word for word, but it's close enough :P

Wait, but doesn't Youtube already support .AVI?

If not, then I'd recommend MediaCoder.

Some of it is a bit complicated, but you can figure it out.

It might, but after 2 hours and less than 25% download completion, firefox completely lagged out.

It does, except .avi files are usually quite large and take an extremely long time to upload. MP4 is the best option in my experience.
Heck, Joe if you want to send me the video I could easily convert it into an MP4 and send it back to you

Joe96 I recomend converting into a windows movie maker (WMM) file then uploading to youtube. If it can't get on to WMM then you my friend, are going to have to wait.

If you don't even have WMM, then I'm sorry

I use Prism Video Converter. Not as good as others but it does what it's supposed to do.

Do what bunniecorps said. It's a really easy way to do it.

I've got it (it's free if you don't) and I even tried that, but it was a mess, because when I imported it, it split up a 5 minute clip into about 20 segments :P
