In class, we were introduced to people who had undergone/ were considering having a sex change. One person spoke of how once the sex change was done, he couldn't travel on his passport, as he was previously a she.
What do you think the pros and cons of individuals who undergo this procedure recieving full documentation could be?
Xzeno, I think that's more the exception to the rule. Obviously, the vast majority of people born with XY chromosomes are male, and the vast amount born with XX are female.

Yes, it clearly is an exception. The purpose was to demonstrate that the idea male = Y chromosome was fundamentally flawed. Since some women have XY chromosomes, we obviously cannot use that as our definition of male. I never said it was common, nor does the relative rarity undermine my point.
What rights? They are completely equal in every way. If we let them change their birth certificate then we are actually giving them more rights because no one else has the right to alter their certificate.
Actually, everyone has that right. You just have to go through gender reassignment first. The right is equal across the board, but not all choose to exercise it.
The certificate itself definitely shouldn't be touched but their should be a note that you underwent the procedure.
That's a very good point.

The end bit is valid, but they are not equal in every way, they are subject to more discrimination in the work place etc.
I can easily imagine a future when those who changed their sex would look just like anybody and have all the papers to show you wrong if you question their past. Scary thought...
I think a lot of the time they do look like anybody else. I was watching the jeremy kyle show and there were a few people who underwent surgery on it who looked like your average person.
I think girls who become guys look much more comfortable than the vise versa.
