What do you think about bands such as Demon Hunter? They are considered Religous and Death Metal.

Hm, I wonder whether this is more appropriately placed here or in the Movies/Music section.

Because on one hand it's about a band...but in general it's about religious elements in popular culture!

Well, I guess it could be both. I'm a big fan of Demon Hunter, if you read the lyrics, you would know they ARE a Christian band. You don't have to stick to church hymns to play Christian music, Demon Hunter, Still Remains, As I Lay Dying, and As Cities Burn are all great examples of this.

As I Lay Dying is a Christian band? Here I thought they were a William Faulkner fan band.

My take on Christian music: As long as it's heavy on the music, I can deal with Christian themes. Within Temptation seems like a Christian band, but I really like there music.

It's when a band thinks that being Christian is all you need, and their talent at their instruments is... well, it could use improvement, that I think the band is no good.

Have any of you heard of Skillet? Man do they rock! And they are a Christian band, but you can totally tell. Within Temptation is also a great band. I have heard of Demon Hunter, but never knew they were Christian. I think I will go look them up.

@XCoheedX: You and I will have to disagree about what quality music is. I can't stand Skillet :-p

I went and listened to some Demon Hunter on YouTube. Excellent videos, but the music... well it's not the worst metal I've listened to. The singer has a decent voice but drops into cookie monster vocals way too much. The guitar riffs are uninspired and have too much of a pop sound. The drummer is no better than mediocre (although he's maybe the hugest drummer I've seen so far). However, they do a good job of not letting their religion get in the way of their music. Like I said, not great, but not awful.

I took your lead and YouTubed Demon Hunter as well. I didn't mind the music much, but youre right... the singer could use a cough drop!

Well it's everyone's own opinion. But YES he needs a cough drop. Guys check out Still Remains on YouTube... listen to the real songs then look for the ones with re-made lyrics its funny!

i personally think demon hunter is a great band. they have a great sound and their lyrics are awesome. they may not sound Christian but the band members and their lyrics are. also, their new album is fantastic.

you may be surprised a lot of metal bands are Christian like august burns red, as i lay dying, haste the day, and many others.

What characterizes a Christian band? The members being Christian? or the Music and Lyrics being on Christian topics? I have never heard of those bands, are they pretty mainstream? If so, I usually do not care for very mainstream music, it all sounds the same and overproduced for the masses.

i think just about anything Christian related, having Christian band members, lyrics, or music genre can classify it as that. the bands that i mentioned aren't totally main stream and each one has their own unique sound. i think their all great.

I don't think any of the bands mentioned thus far are really mainstream. Skillet had some success, but to a limited audience. Creed and Reliant K are the two Christian bands that had the most mainstream success.

I pretty much think that the thing that makes a band Christian or not is whether they say they are. A band can be composed of religious people and could even sing about that religion without being a "Religious" band.
