Hm, I'd picture that as more of a song for driving on Route 66-6. I don't see the lyrics as actually fitting the Apocalypse.
Is that REM song not a perfect fit?
Well, in my opinion, I think it actually sounds rather light. When I think of the Apocalypse, I'm thinking of a destroyed land ravaged by magma/solar flares/etc. I'd picture something along the lines of thrash metal to be a bit more fitting.
Well, I have some ideas (sorry non-gamers) Alien apocalypse ("all your base r belong to us" aliens) A Dispair-Filled Farewell ~ Battle With the Colossus - Shadow of the Colossus Natural disaster apocalypse (NOT METEORS) (2012) Avalon - Ace Combat Zero Meteor Apocalypse (self explanatory) before- The Great Northern Cave - Final Fantasy VII during- Flying Meteor - Kirby Air Ride
I'd picture a really sad classical song, with each character of our story being slowly panned by the camera, looking sobered by the event, and then show all of them together being flashed by an incredibly bright light as the music slows down, and then the ending credits.
You can just imagine the soundtrack.
This may sound like an over-used answer, but I have to go with Slayer's Raining Blood. It has a very heavy sound, and the lyrics seem to fit well.
Oh hell naw. If it's war, as Raining Blood certainly suggests, War Ensemble or Skeletons of Society are clearly better choices.
