I love the weather and have always been interested in it. To me, the creation of incredible storms and the patterns of heat, wind, fronts, and pressure systems in absolutely incredible, especially since many of these things still baffle humans!

I want to know: does anybody share my interest? Any other weather buffs out there? Or, some interesting story or fact about the weather?

Please, share it here!

Isn't that creepy? That sometimes happens here too. I'll sit outside, waiting for the thunder, but it never comes...

Do you know why that is, that sometimes we don't hear the thunder? I was thinking maybe because the wind blows the sound away.

Aww, that's too bad. The rain chances are decreasing here, too.

@HahiHa

Looks like you were right!

This site says:

Silent lightning also occurs where airborne matter muffles the thunder, such as heavy snow in winter storms (thundersnow) and dust and sand storms. In some instances, heavy falling snow has silenced thunder from cloud to ground lightning strikes as close as one to two miles (1.6 to 3.2 km) from the observer and severe dust storms are even more effective in many cases.

Actually, silent lightning at a distance is called heat lightning. But during a storm, if there's no sound, I'd assume it was rain blocking the sound (or snow).

Sounds like a pretty nice day!

Yeah, but nothing this year, well so far...has beaten the July 4th day I had here. I was the perfect day to go out walk around, head to the beach, or any outside activities. I still remember clearly, my July 4th, clear skies, the perfect breeze, about 70 degrees. It was perfect. Literally. Perfect.

Today, clear skies, it got a little warmer but not bad.

OKAY: THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!
You will not see me get serious very often, but I am going to do so now. Hurricane Irene--yes it is a hurricane now--has strengthened and begun to follow a path that is very good for its development. This is the latest Weather Channel map.
http://image.weather.com/images/maps/tropical/map_tropprjpath09_ltst_5nhato_enus_600x405.jpg
As you can see, it is much stronger than they thought it would be already. As you can see in the map, it is supposed to be a strong category 2. Below is the Saffir-Simpson Scale, the scale used in hurricane classification.
http://serc.carleton.edu/images/eslabs/hurricanes/saffir-simpson-sm.gif
To reiterate, it is forecasted to be a strong category 2, or even a category 3, which would make it a major hurricane.

So, to everyone in Florida and nearby states, please prepare now as this could get very very bad in the coming days. Below are some Weather Channel links you may find helpful.

Some hurricane safety tips
Here's more info. about Irene.

Please everyone, stay safe and prepare now.

Wow. A tree near my great uncle's house got some bark ripped off by lightning, but it didn't catch on fire. Did the fire spread at all?

No that was the only tree in his front yard but, if it was in the back yard the woods would be on fire.

Here is a virtually satillite pic of the hurricane

Agh! Dang it! Is too cold in here! Not cold as snowy countries, though.

Is about 6 C here now and my apartment is VERY cold in the inside. Is so cold that my hands look freezing and I can't type fast as I can in normal temperatures!

I hate winter... >:-P

It's funny how that day was only the good 4th of July like ever. All those previous Independence days were usually really hot, or overcast skies and stuff like that. And all those days weren't...ya know I guess you can say perfect.

Today, apparently, it got slightly hotter. Highish 70's, I believe. And a little bit of a breeze.

So apparently New England decided to get pretty hot. But it's good temperature. It's been raining hard, on and off, which bothers me so much because during the summer I like clear skies, and a temperature of 80 at most. I don't like clouds though because they block the sun and it gets all dark and depressing for a moment, then goes back to being nice and sunny. That upsets me.
