Have you guys heard about the new Wii U? its supposed to be a controller or something with a screen that you can use to connect to the tv, and you can use the pad to control the character on the tv! Kinda hard to explain, so here is a link to a cool video I found about it:
You still play on a tv. That screen is an option to take your console games with you on the move.
That's incorrect. Yes, you can stream games to the Wii U screen, BUT it is not a portable console and is not intended to be used as such. I doubt the reach of that thing is super far, but I obviously can't be sure.
I think it just sucks that you get one controller here (the netherlands)
The Wii U only works with one controller tablet period. All other players use Wii-motes.
Honestly I'm torn. I'll reserve my final judgement until I see some actual first party games (and not ports of HD games that are out half a year by the time it releases), but right now the thing seems very disappointing.
The controller looking easily breakable doesn't help either.

It actually is correct. It plays console games. Its portable. Portable console with a range of 50 ft I think.

That's not "taking games with you on the move". Also, source or it didn't happen.
According to this the range of the thing goes into the next room.....at best. That's not my definition of *portable*. Not to mention the concept of a "ortable home console" like this seems rather silly.
That thing looks like a brick.
I'm talking about the screen obviously. The bigger you make those LCD screen, the easier it is to break them.
Standing with a group of friends: "What consoles do you have guys?" "360, of course." "The PS3 is better." "What do you have Bob?" "I have a Wii U."
Wii U Sounds retarded and babyish. I would feel embarrassed just owning one. But who knows. Even tho the title sounds retarded it still could be a good console.
encase you didn't read the opening post let me make this clear. the Wii U is not a separate system, rather, it is a new controller for the Wii, sort of like the u draw tablet they have out now. Nintendo is trying to capitalize on the niche it has carved out on touch screen controlled games. the video made it look promising, let's hope it is good in practice. (still waiting for the vitality sensor (announced at E3 2008, it would measure our heart beat.))

Nice try champ, but the Wii U is in fact a new console.Nintendo just completely failed at introducing their new console at their OWN conference. How else would the Wii sudddenly have HD graphics? o-0
It moves. Its a game. Good enough for me. Also how big is your house? Room to room can get 50 ft easy.
Conjecture. All you're doing is making up random numbers.
Note how the link I posted implies it's very possible the controller won't work once you change rooms.
After doing some more research, the official Nintendo site lists the range of a normal Wii-mote at 30 ft. Since those numbers are given by Nintendo itself, it's not much of a stretch to assume that is the range it has AT BEST, meaning more than likely less than that.
Further research on Wiki tells me the range needed to actually interact with a TV is around 16 ft.
Which basically means the whole "being portable" thing is entirely pointless, since
a) You need to be near a TV to actually interact with it (mind you, this is another feature they were showing off) and
b) Even if it DOES work, what if the game you're playing doesn't stream to the controller (like in that handy picture you provided)?
It isn't that big. Looks about 6 inches. Thats smaller than an iPad.
Your point? 6 inches is twice as much as the 3DS screen. Besides, I've had 2 inch LCD displays break on me before.
