Mirror's edge didn't exactly set the world on fire, but it brought interesting concepts and some fresh free-running gameplay to a first-person genre arguably overladen with games based around shooting at anything with legs and hiding when their bullets inevitably come chasing after your soft vital organs. Now, a sequel is not only confirmed to be in development, but rumored to use the same Frostbite 2.0 engine that Battlefield 3 will be running on - and a Mirror's Edge game with the kind of visuals that DICE has been displaying is an enticing thought indeed. rev=/search%3Fq%3Dmirrors%2Bedge%26hl%3Dsr%26biw%3D1440%26bih%3D799%26gbv%3D2%26tbm%3Disch&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=122&vpy=277&dur=1793&hovh=168&hovw=300&tx=193&ty=111&age=1&ndsp=26&ved=1t:429,r:7,s:0&biw=1440&bih=799" alt="http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.gamingheaven.com/gamingreviewimages/mirrorsedge/pictures/mirror_s_edge_02_tif_jpgcopy.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.gamingheaven.com/gamingreviews.php%3Freviewid%3D667&usg=__HZs44tALh7ESY001NNWPxsNzNy0=&h=576&w=1024&sz=235&hl=sr&start=0&sig2=9SVVPqNguSUqITLCotoO2Q&zoom=1&tbnid=7jbWMu-yAcjXfM:&tbnh=117&tbnw=208&ei=WiHxTee9BIyr-QaXttyAAw&rev=/search%3Fq%3Dmirrors%2Bedge%26hl%3Dsr%26biw%3D1440%26bih%3D799%26gbv%3D2%26tbm%3Disch&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=122&vpy=277&dur=1793&hovh=168&hovw=300&tx=193&ty=111&age=1&ndsp=26&ved=1t:429,r:7,s:0&biw=1440&bih=799" />
Now, bearing in mind that this isn't an official announcement, Frank Gibeau is the president of EA Games. So, it seems to be a fair assumption that he knows what's going on in the "our development schedule" field. Asked in an interview about Mirror's Edge 2 potentially using Frostbite, Gibeau said "You'll see that combination, I'm sure." Seems legit, all told, and maybe this time around the collision detection won't drag down the pace of the game.
Seriously, though. See that picture up there? It already looks pretty good. Now imagine that looking as gorgeous as Battlefield 3.
