In order to ensure a proper running Xbox You will need three essential items. (Item U.R.L's will be pasted beneath the items so that you can order the items and receive them promptly. The U.R.Lâs are not SPAM I am not associated with any advertising broker. They are merely tips and products that I have found to be useful. )
1. Lint free cloth
2. Anti static cleaner

The cleaner will keep the exterior clean and safe of a shock hazard. Spray the cleaner into the cloth and wipe the Xbox clean.

3. A Moisture free air duster is also essential. This will be used to get the excess dust out of your console. Spray in short bursts into the vents of your Xbox do NOT shake the can.

4. A fan that fits onto the back of your Xbox keeps the console from overheating, and prevents excess dust from building.

Now have fun and take care of your console!

While taking care of anything you've paid for is sound advice I have to disagree with the usefulness of fans for Xbox 360s. Unless your console is terribly ventilated there is simply no need for them, and if it is terribly ventilated you can pick it up and move it for free.

If you've got one of the original, larger 360s adding fans to it just increase the noise level of an already excessively loud console and do nothing to prevent failures like the original RROD problems everyone is familiar with. If you've got one of the new slim 360s there are simply no known cooling problems (assuming your console is properly ventilated) and it would be a shame to make it louder just for the sake of doing so.

It's worth noting that some fans come with nifty LEDs and stuff. If you're into that kind of thing by all means go for it.

I'd rather just purchase a PS3 instead of wasting money on these things to keep the Xbox 360 running efficiently.

I agree with Matrix. Great article, but I've done all of these things and I've still been through 4 360s and am currently going to move onto a PS3. Xbox 360's apparently have a 33% chance of hardware failure. If you've ever taken one apart, you can just see how cheaply made they are.

In a way, you are right. And, hell, you might just think getting a PS3 is better. But you have to take into account the poor networking service. PSN is unreliable compared to XBox Live, and the XBox generally has better gameplay.
