I just finished watching Anthony Weiner resign due to this "sex scandal" of his. Which really was just him sending inappropriate and sexual pictures of himself to girls.
I don't condone or defend anyone who cheats on their spouse. But does sending inappropriate pictures make Weiner unfit to be a congressman? Why are so many politicians driven out of office because of frivolous personal problems?
It's because we are a nation of five year olds. I feel kind of sick that I am posting this and contributing in any way to the Anthony Weiner scandal's publicity. But this needs to be pointed out.
It may be because of how heavily Christian our nation is, but we seem to be prude and easily disgusted when it comes to our politician's sex lives. Instead of looking at his political tract record, Weiner was forced to resign because some people deemed him unfit to lead due to pictures he sent. These pictures were not classified images of war crime. These pictures were not proof of a fraudulent election. They were pictures of his penis bulge.
The maturity level of this nation is sickening and almost nonexistent.

Oh for gods sake Frosty do you blame the Christians when you fail a test? Or when you have to do chores? You can complain all you want to about how ridiculous it is to have 'standards' but to the nation you're just a screaming monkey.
I am shocked and appalled. That it took this thread two pages to have a go at his name, I mean. Now that the off-topic philosophy is out of the way, we can get to the meat of the subject: The man's name is Weiner. Now, onto the topic:
I think it just makes it really ironic the guy's name is Weiner.
I think you're wrong. How is that ironic? Seems more like an amusing coincidence to me.
That newspaper headline is solid gold. Obama Beats Weiner... it's a racist joke away from perfection. I'm kind of shocked someone named Weiner would do this. I mean, imagine the fallout! We're basically the tamest website on the whole entire Internet. Imagine what's happening on facebook right now.
If you'll forgive a moment of off-topicness, I'm not sure the fact that he was cheating on his wife in some capacity is not relevant to his leadership abilities. It indicates a sense of self-interest, rather than care for how his actions will help others. I'm not saying he was worse or that his actions prove that he was worse than an average politician, but I can see why it is a discredit to him. He could be prone to corruption, or worse: Anti-feminist.
I swear Xzeno, it is your goal in life to tie in feminism or the anti of it into almost every post you make @_@
And the general public is stupid, we know this. We aren't informed of everything, so people are swayed by the smallest things, therefore immature. Moving past that, we are supposed to be represented equally, given what I stated above, we do not need to further be seen as the nation of idiots, so why do we want politicians less than perfect to represent us? Then again, your term of perfect varies on different degrees of certain aspects, so we can't really have a good set shape for a republic.
We are a nation, maybe not of 5 year olds, but close enough, you still need to realize you don't know everything that goes on with politics, you only know what they allow the media to feed our five year old eyes. I think most of us know that our nation is contradicting, immature, heavily based on opinionated things.
We aren't informed of everything, so people are swayed by the smallest things,
Prove it. Ignorance breeds inoffensive centrism, not bad voting habits, in my experience. There is a general assumption that a more informed person will make better decisions, but I'm not sure this assumption holds up to scrutiny. Informed people tend to be far more biased and far less capable of accepting a logical counter-argument.
Your experience? What qualifies you? You can't vote. Don't try that one.
Ignorance breeds inoffensive centrism, not bad voting habits,
I'm far from racist, but how much do you want to bet more people voted for Obama just because he wasn't white? More so than the people that voted AGAINST him because he wasn't. I don't know numbers, but if you want to get there I could try to dig some up for you. I'm not saying he is bad at his job, but he has a relatively short term, and I've yet to see anything notable from him that has gotten people involved.
While the more informed are less capable of accepting a counter-argument, in my opinion that is better than finding mindless voters.
Discordance that goes beyond the simple and evident intention of words or actions. In this case a man named Weiner showing off his weaner. THAT IRONIC.

Race had nothing to do with that joke, it could easily apply to anyone. For example Bush Beats Weiner Palin Beats Weiner Biden beats Weiner
The masturbation joke work no matter who you apply it to.
I don't think it's so much that he sent the pictures, it's that he lied about it and kept up the lie for a week. He could've just apologised immediately and no one would've really cared, but since he lied and said he was hacked, it became huge. It raised the question of, "What else is he willing to lie about?"

Uh, yeah. No. I think that would have been even more scandelous. Everyone expects politicians to have some flaw, but one who says, "Okay, I just took pictures of myself and sent them out on the internet!" is going to get a :O and then ridicule reaction, and it leads to the same thing.
Uh, Mage, what he meant was, if it had a racist joke in there too, it'd be perfect. He was saying it lacked one.
My bad misread it.

Our political system will never be perfect (not even close) the way it is now, but to drastically change it could have catastrophic effect. There needs to be some middle ground.
