whoops, I mean vikings, not vultures and when I say dropships I mean the medivacs. They are just better drops to me.
Haha, nice.
Vikings are awesome if you ask me. :P
I have, however, found the hellions to be very useful against zerg, specially the ones that mass attack. I still need to get used to the units as the campaign doesnt really teach you how to PvP, what with the upgrades and extra units.
I'm afraid you may be misleading me a little. It works a little like this to a guy used to Multiplayer (me :P ):
P = Protoss
T = Terran
Z = Zerg
When you say PvP, I think Protoss vs Protoss, not Player vs Player :P
I also generally macro as my micro is quite bad. Its not that I cant do it, I just get so into attacking that if it fails, I realise I didnt actually keep my economy, base or troops building while I sent my attack.
Macro > Micro usually, especially when you get to the point where you have so many units losing an additional one due to lack of micro means very little. :P
The terran meanwhile had blocked and had 2 raks with whadyamkallits, build 2 guys at once thing.
2 Rax with Reactors spawns 4 Marines at a time. Ouch. :P
Slowly wore me down and eventually was past the point of no return.
Whilst you did point out that you messed up by not blocking the entrance I feel that building 1-2 Bunkers with SCV's repairing would be very effective. :P
Of course I was not there and as such can't really give good tips - maybe he broke your first line of defense, I don't know.
I dont give up. Ever.
Depending on your League this can be an excellent idea since it is possible to still win. However -- at higher leagues it may be more fair (and not considered bad-manner) to simply GG out. :P
Looking at the replay there was one point we had more troops than them and a counter attack might have worked but really, they controlled the map and took advantage of our slowness.
Quite often you always ALWAYS wanna counter-attack, if they have more men, ya run. If the Zerg has Speedlings then that may not be such a good idea, though.
Or a unit generally faster than your own.
Which at the time was Mutalisks, I guess. :P
I guess the lesson I learned from that was block my base and get my barracks up faster.
Good job spotting the problem that caused the situation, not the situation itself.
Rax up faster would be very nice, here's a few builds for different races (the Terran one I suggest you use):
Orbital Command Opening:
10 Supply Depot
12 Barracks
13 Refinary
15 Orbital Command
15 Marine
16 Supply Depot
Protoss 4-Warp Gate Rush:
9 Pylon
12 Gateway
14 Assimilator
16 Pylon
18 Cybernetics Core
19 Zealot
23 Pylon
24 Stalker
26 Warpgate Research
27 Gateway
28 Sentry
30 2 Gateways
31 Proxy Pylon
First, I'm not sure it's 23 Pylon, and second, this was before the Warpgate Research had increased research time.
14 Gas Speed
9 Overlord
14 Extractor
14 Spawning Pool
15 Overlord
@100% Spawning Pool, a Queen and Metabollic Boost
You can MOSTLY go from there, though I get 3 pairs of Ling, then a Drone, and then go from there -- I expand at roughly 20-22.
I thought I should add that I usually put my Commands on Group 0, raks on group 9 and my supplys on group 8.
I think you should have your keys easier to reach. I have it like this:
Early game:
2 Scout 3 Hatchery 6 Overlord
Building up:
1 Army 3 Hatchery 4 Hatchery 5 Queens 6 Overlord
Mid-game:
1 Army 2 Secondary Army (easier micro) 3-5 Hatchery 4-6 (straight after Hatchery) Queens
Late-end game:
1 Army 2 Secondary Army 3-9 Hatchery (although I may make a few macro hatches instead of Expansion hatches) 4-0 Queens
I also have a mouse with 2 extra buttons on the thumb and use one for ping and the other for "select idle worker" instead of the F1 key.
Well played good sir!
