I believe so, but be careful if you buy the kindle. the books and reader are cheap, but it is extremely fragile. do not fret, if you buy the warranty, you should be fine.
I wouldn't recommend it. There isn't much use. You can just go to the local library and rent out a novel instead of buying a download. I guess if you fly a lot it would be nice and save on space.
I bought my girlfriend the Amazon Kindle for her birthday. I'm not a huge fan of ereaders but she loves it because she's an english major at college. It depends on what books you want/need.

I disagree, although the new version is smaller and slimmer, it's perfectly sturdy enough. But getting a protection case is recommended.

Amazon offer hundreds of free downloads for the kindle.
Plus, you can use the internet (sadly in black and white)on the kindle.
I prefer regular books. My friends have asked me to borrow books, and I've done the same thing. You can't do that with an eBook.
However, if you like those really long books and have a small apartment, eBooks are a really great idea. They take up virtually no space, they're cheaper, they can't get destroyed (you can just download it again for free), and they have the exact same content as the normal book.
I just don't think you can replicate the feeling of going out to Barnes and Noble and getting a thick, crisp book. And then reading it.
