I was browsing Wikipedia and I found these beatiful, newly discovered type of clouds. They are called Undulatus asperatus.

I would like to hear what you guys think about it, and maybe some more nice pics.

Here are some pics I found.

I think they are astounding. But I find it realllllyyy strange that we've been in the science of meteorology for how long now? And we're just now discovering this new type of cloud? Lol
Thanks for sharing though, those are cool.

Its not that they've been 'recently discovered'. In order to determine if this is a new type of cloud, they have to study the way it forms and under what conditions. I've only found out about these clouds when the National Geographic posed up a picture of one, so it shows they're not as common as other types.

That's cool, but what's really pretty impressive is that there are still clouds that we don't know about. Well, I guess I'll just post a pic of a cool cloud now, keep the thread alive...http://www.crystalinks.com/pinkufocloud.jpg

You're very right, that does make a lot of sense lol, meteorology just isn't quite my niche and research in it seems almost completely died out in terms of discoveries and whatnot. I thrive in the microbiological field

Well when I usually see clouds (usually being the operative word) I make shapes out of them like space ships, pac-man, feathers, etc. Or angels wings when there's a bunch of small thin clouds made into a feather.

Those clouds are beautiful! Wow, so surreal! I like them, wish I'd seen them before in real life!

I'm actually thinking about maybe doing this as a study. You know clouds and all that stuff. I'm only 13 but I just love clouds.

Also cumulonimbus arcus can look quite astonishing if you take the picture right.

Oh, wow, that's a roll cloud! It's the leading edge of the rain front on a cumulonimbus. Thunderheads are so amazing...

These are mammatus. They appear on the underside of the top part of the anvils of thunderheads, and show turbulence in the parent storm.

I am unaware of the formal name for this cloud; the site it was on called it a "Mushroom cloud". This one formed by water-filled air being forced up a mountainside.

One more!

This is a lenticular cloud. These clouds form stable air turns into waves after being forced up a mountain, then fall down.

When I was little I once saw a cloud that looked like an angle, and I think I saw light shining behind it...

The clouds in my area are beautiful, but they definitely aren't as cool as the ones here.
I especially like clouds that appear during sunrise or sunset, and turn purple, red and orange as they reflect the sun.
I wish I had some pictures to show.
