I'm completely satisfied in my life without any religion and I've always wondered the following; why do people insist upon searching for meaning outside of themselves? Shouldn't people look for meaning within themselves before looking outward? Any thoughts? Anybody and everybody is encouraged to respond regardless of depth of opinion.
why do people insist upon searching for meaning outside of themselves?
Fear, mostly. Religion is an indoctrinating fear tactic.
Hell, as an atheist, even I'm still afraid of death. Afraid there will be a black void of nothingless when I leave this world. But I don't seek a comforting "God", because if he is real, he hasn't been treating me very well.
I'd rather not have such a thing as a scapegoat. There's plenty of other things to blame my life on.
That depends on how immersed they are in their religion of choice. When you mix faith with reality there is a serious problem, but not all those who believe in God do that.

That video was amazing, that man deserves an award or at least some recognition.
I should have been more clear, what I meant was some do not mix the two to the extent where a doubt in their belief of God brings their world crashing down around them.
