ok ive beat the first 11 battles with golds so far.
this is how i build my points
harden steel x5 gold x 5 fireball x3 castle hp x3 cats/seige dmg x2 tower range x2
ive found this to be most effective so far, gold and tower dmg a must early on in batlle, then use acid upgrade/ ice upgrade - (to slow them down!) fire upgrades for mass damage, cats upgraded to 3 stones and using fire hit for 36 dmg x 3,towers should be hitting for 7 no fire and 12.1 with fire.will update soon
I am stuck at A Knight's Hale too. I can reach to Wave ~83 and than i lose. I Started with Arrow towers(Hardened Steel +5, Range+5, Archers+5) and getting Goldmining +5 before Wave 12. Then i added more Archer towers and later Wizzard Towers. And getting +5 Ice and +5 Fire. But it's not enough o.O. Here a Screenshot of my Setup//imageshack.us/photo/my-images/819/ctctd.jpg/
That's also the level where i get stuck... Highest wave so far: 75. I only build Wizard Towers, but near wave 70 it gets really hard to upgrade them fast enough. Upgrades i use: Tower Range +5, Castle Fortification +5, Gold Farming +5, Wizard Training +5, Ice +5, Acid +5, Electricity +5.
I'm still trying to find what the most damaging mix of ammo is. Ice is necessary to slow them down, but is acid better than electricity?
I use the Quarry + Library to block the path of the left waves (place them below the "orange circle", and force them along the left side. This way you can create a maze with towers for them.
Is there a way to get the rightside waves OFF the path? That should make it easier, but i haven't found out how to do that. (if at all possible...)
Also i found that reinforcing your Castle is best when you have no damage, as upgrading WITH damage will keep the damage-percentage intact.
@Valboss84: Place your towers as strategically as possible: between the roads that split up. Just cover as much of the track (you can see how much they cover as you place them), and keep adding higher graded towers. Hope that helps, but maybe you are already doing that... Good luck!
@valboss84: I used only Wizard Towers, with MAX upgrades for Range, Wizard Training, Ice, Acid, Electric. Castle Reinforcement was not even needed when i tried it just now. The Towers were upgraded individually to level 2, so that they have 3 wizards each instead of 2.
I had 4 towers in the middle (covering as much of the track possible), 2 towers at the split in the beginning, and finally 1 on the path between those.
No enemy reached the castle.
Start with a Wizard Tower in the middle, and the Quarry to upgrade the Range. Then buy the Library to upgrade on Wizard Training and Ice. You can hold off the first 6 (or so) waves with just one tower.
acid is good for a few towers,damge over time is free.as for my setups they usually go like this xxxxx x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x xxxxxxx
always try to build mazes that way ever tower is in range and can fire on all targets at all times.the crossfires are your best friends.upgradeded ballistas and cats are devastating in these formations.also only use a few ice and acid towers as the effects do not stack.slow thm down burn them with acid and let the fire finish them off.also remeber to upgrade your castle before it gets hitonce it suffers damage your upgrades will be useless as they do not heal
JaykopX: holy crap that is a lot of archer towers! I didn't know that was a viable strategy, but seems like you did pretty well since you got near the end.
jahjahjah: I've tried massing wizard towers in various configurations and with different element combinations - none seem to work after wave 75. The left side waves are never the problem, it's always the right side waves that kill me.
I've been playing around with a mass trebuchets strategy - since they have superior range and decent dps (when relevant research is maxed). I think I'm going to follow JaykopX and throw some archer towers into the mix too.
So my theory proved correct, and I ended up beating the level easily with mass archer towers and trebuchets.
The thing is, un-upgraded archer towers using fire shot have an insane damage-to-price ratio (9dmg/50g), so it is always good to use them. However, towards the later waves I needed the prime real estate for my trebuchets, since they were my main damage dealers. I had all trebuchets set to ice shot, so that the enemies would clump up and take the most splash damage. Furthermore, all my trebuchets were only upgraded to level 2, since after that the damage/range gain was not worth the price of the upgrade. The great range of the trebuchets meant I usually had 10+ trebuchets firing on the enemies at any time.
Research upgrades (I was level 10 at the time): Quarry: Tower Range: Maxed Castle Fortification: Maxed (though unnecessary, as the enemies never reached my tower)
Armory: Train Archers: Maxed Hardened Steel: Maxed (very important for archer towers!) Bigger Bombs: Maxed Train Siege Masters: Maxed Gold Farming: Level 3 (diminishing returns from the increasing cost of the research made me not want to max this)
I believe that you can get a gold medal on any level in the game with a combination of archer towers and trebuchets. For levels without a fixed path to your castle (most levels), simply get a few upgraded trebuchets and use archers towers and your research buildings to create a maze around the trebuchets. For levels with a fixed path, follow a strategy similar to what I described above.
I used to think that massing wizard towers was the only way to beat the later levels (and this strat does work to an extent), but then I realized trebuchets with ice shot + upgraded range and splash makes for much more effective dps.
Hope this mini-guide helps!
Here are couple s.s. of my setup for A Knight's Hale at waves 85 and 90, respectively. My castle was undamaged the entire level.
Wave 85 is now the furthest i got to with Wizard Towers only. Ice and Flame (both MAX) seems to be the most damaging combination. Still, after wave 80 it really gets hard to upgrade the towers in time. I still think it's possible this way, but timing is crucial.
Sounds like your strategy is the easier way. Thanks for sharing!
jahjahjah: No problem! I beat most of the later levels by massing wizard towers too, since technically they are the most powerful tower. However, the problem I see with using wizard towers on Knight Hale is this:
-First and foremost, you don't want a concentrated few highly upgraded towers on this level, no matter what tower you are using. Since the path is so straight and each tower isn't going to get that much exposure anyway, it's smarter to use and upgrade towers that will give you the best damage for the price. This would arguably be the archer tower with fire shot - but since there is only so much space next to the path, you need to make better user of the space with more expensive towers, i.e. trebuchet or wizard
-However, at low levels the wizard tower is worse than its trebuchet counterpart in almost every category. Damage and range are nearly the same, so the clear factor is the trebuchet's splash potential. Not to mention the trebuchet is cheaper and builds/upgrades faster. Thus, it doesn't make sense to mass wizard towers if you don't plan on upgrading past level 2 or 3.
I figured the "open" maps could be abused with the old desktop tower defense strategy of making mazes with cheap towers.
But anyways, it seems that anything but archer towers (for blocking purposes mostly) and trebuchets are all that is neccesary. Ballista is too hard to constantly get multiple hits from compared to trebuchet, and the catapault is limited in the number of targets it can hit at a time. Wizard tower is just a better version of catapault.
