I play pretty often. I takes a lot of time on disk one. There are four disks used to complete one game. I am currently on disk one. Yes it's an older game, but it was pretty advanced considering when it came out. The graphics are good, nice interface, and multiple characters. I would recomend this game to anyone who can get their hands on it.
It's an amazing game for the Ps1. The fighting system is dynamic and fun to use, though a little simple in terms of damage calculation. It focuses on the need to input commands with the right timing to perform ''additions''. When you go through the whole command input, you perform the addition - regular attack - if not, you'll deal less damage. A 4 cd game, with oldschool 2d painted graphics and very good storyline; definitely worth checking out.
What's your team? Personnaly, I can't play without Albert, he's so awesome.
I like Meru just for the fact that she can attack almost three times while the others will act only once. It compensates for her terrible attack. Her magics though are very good.
My favorite team is Dart, Albert and either Meru or Haschel, depending on how I feel. The only thing I haven't achieved on that game yet is reaching the max level; it's waaaaaay too long to cap on LoD.
It took me a week to beat the final boss in that game. I tried six times each day. I even used the strategy guide. My friend beat it in one shot. However, he used the New Game + glitch that is not worth your saved game. Once I am done with 'Dragon Quest VI', I'll either start a new game of this, or 'Suikoden'. So far, I'm leaning towards 'Suikoden'.
Seriously?...Okay, maybe you were just...underleveled? I mean, his last form can be annoying with status ailments, but overall, I remember him being very easy; in fact, I'd often slow down my pace of attack to get to see all his skills, otherwise, I'd kill him too fast :P. Then again, it may be related to your team; if it's something like Albert and Kongol, and you've not purchased a legendary cask, then yes, it can be troublesome to whistand his magic attacks, especially since his last form has a very powerful Ice magic. Dart: weak to ice, Albert: bad magic res, Kongol, hideous magic res.
Some tips would be to keep everyone's dragoon gauge full, so you can escape the status ailments by transforming everyone at once. Having Meru is also a very good way of beating him since she's hardly affected by his ice magic, and can heal/cure everyone quite enough with rainbow breath.
Suikoden, or LoD? Personnaly, I'd lean toward LoD, even though I have both.
My levels were in the 40's... I think... that was years ago.
On his final form, you don't want to transform for more than a turn, the Monsters will kill you in dragoon form.
I have read somewhere on GameFAQs that Meru's dragon summon can deal 9999 damage, but it requires a lot of optimization.
During my first playthrough, these are the bosses who gave me a hard time. (Cut me some slack, I was eight years old.)
Melbu Frahma (surprised?) Grand Jewel (one word: dispirited) Lenus (Wingly) Emperor Doel (stupid Lightning Ball) S Virage (Kadessa, I didn't want the party dead at the end) Sandora Elite Kongol 2 Drake the Bandit Jiango (Shana was in party, dLv1) Lloyd (Dragon Buster) Divine Dragon Spirit (I just gave up)
Yes I have heard of it, and I would still play it, If I had a ps. The local movies and more place has it, so I would buy it. You know, I have put up 6 threads abotu this, and noone has ever oticed it, why is that? And of course no matter what you preferred team has dart, because he cant be brought off. But my favorite is Kongol and Rose, ( is kongol the name of the giant guy, its been soooo long since I have played, I hardly remember) Oooh, and to everyone who doesn't know, the game not a first person shooter, its an rpg, with some tactical thinking involved. It is in my top 3 games.

Lenus and Jiango are hard, I agree wholeheartedly, as for the rest, I don't remember having any difficulties, then again, I wasn't eight ^^. One game Rpg with over the top difficulty is Tales of destiny 2, for the Ps1. When you go through it once, you can play on hardcore difficulty, which is just as the name implies.
