I don't understand why some forums are being locked, for some i can see why but for most it still remains unclear. a moderator could at least say why he/she is locking the topic before he/she actually does.
Some, if not most, of us add a little tag to the title of the locked thread, usually [ans], [spam] or [dup]. These indicate the reason the thread has been locked, if no other reason is given in a post. This is a lot easier than writing up several posts because someone keeps making duplicate threads, and it is more work efficient. However, if this is not happening, you can always go ask a mod why the thread could have been locked.
Locks are almost always explained, however, and usually only rather stupid threads are left without a reasoning, usually because the mod is too busy facepalming at the stupid to write something up, and none of the tags would quite capture the utter shock of something that stupid to happen.
