So basically like steam on pc you just download games and play?
Cool I guess but you would need to have a credit card and some peoples parents dont like using it on games for there kids

oh thats what you meant? the first thing i thought about was using something else instead of disks like the casetes for the segamegadrive.

well it would be easier to get games and no games will be rare. BUT... if one game will get erased for some reason there is no way you can get it unlike now that you can use ebay. also gamer is right and many parents dont like doing that. also, you wuoldnt be able to bring the games to a friend. anyway i think they should stick to disks

The idea of not needing discs is good but having the option of using discs is essential if you ask me. It's used in all generations of platforms (although the Wii is different, as well as handheld-devices), and the PC hasn't changed with discs since the very start - they already took out the ability to use Floppy Discs.

It already does my brain in that you buy a game new and they're banging on about extra content before I've got the disk in the tray. I can see it now, segmented release dates, pay in advance, limited premium content, blah blah blah. Who's got the fastest credit card? Real shame if you ask me.

i like discs i think they should stay. but they do have theyre pros and cons. if a game station breaks you still have the games. if you want to play a game at a friends house just bring the disc. if the station breaks the game inside might break. discs are easily scratched.

I like to keep the Disc for safety purposes so if my computer screws up, bam, I have a spare copy.
I prefer this: Games don't need a CD to run after install, but need the CD to install.

+ In NZ we have limited broadband (unless your ultra cool and got a ultra cool broadband plan) so I can't download every game I want, espically now when the games are over 7GB.

Or you could just make a virtual copy of the CD using Daemon Tools.

Person A: Yo! Person B! You want this disc? I already installed the game!
Person B: Awesome Person A thanks for the FREE VIDEO GAME THAT I DID NOT PAY FOR

You can see the problem

I agree with Floyd and Melon, CDs are only scratched if care isn't taken in handling them or putting them away. Avoiding contact with the CDs laser-reading surface and placing them in their original cases (I'm not sure what you call it xD) keeps the disc working smoothly for a much longer time.

I, personally, think that CDs and disks are pretty good as they are. Taking the disks away and making the only way of buying games, movies etc. digital could raise some issues as some other commenters have mentioned. I also enjoy knowing that I have a hard copy of the game somewhere or that I can simply go into my nearest game store and get another one.
