Hi. I was lurking through the forum games and saw the expression "backseat mod". What that means?

Read this.

Basically, someone who tries to act like a moderator.

Uh-oh... a guy called me a Backseat mod...

But I didn't knew what it meant nor did that on purpose... the only backseat modding stuff I accidentally did was asking to lock my own thread by posting this on it (that now I know that is against the rules) and commenting with Turtelman1234 that a topic had too much spam...

Sorry... I didn't meant to.

Ever heard the term 'Back-seat driver'. A back-seat moderater is similar to that idiom, but insead of a driver, it's a moderator.

Ways to detect back-seat mods:

- Look at the color of the text. If it is black, than the user isn't a mod unless they used a picture of black text.

- Look at the message to see if it is moderator behavior

- Look at the user's profile to see if the user is a moderator

So, just to make it clear:

I'm NOT a moderator nor a backseat mod. I NEVER tried to look like a moderator on purpose. In the two cases I've cited above:

On the first case I wasn't familiar to the Forum Rules;

On the second case I was COMMENTING that the thread was full of spam, offensive material and such. I also commented with Turtelman1234 the idea of creating a similar but clean topic.

I am an AG user that is trying to be useful. I am not a moderator and don't try to look like one

It is possible for a normal user to look like a moderator if they do this: Make an entire post a link. The color of a link is very slightly different than a moderator's text color, which can make it difficult to tell whether a user is a mod or not (unless you look at the gray space to the left).

Don't comment on the topic, report it to a mod. It is that simple, and won't be spam.
And please stop the bolding of pretty much everything, thanks.

Which is against the rules anyway, and will get whoever doe it a nice ban.
Besides, we are around 3-4 active mods, we aren't that hard to recognise if you have been active for more than a day or two.

That said, question has been answered, thread is now locked.
