As you all probably know, the Arab Spring is what all the uprisings in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Syria, Bahrain, and Yemen are called. They were revolting because the government wasn't taking care of them, there were no jobs, and just a ton of problems. Do you all think that America will have the next big uprising? CNN posted the results of a poll, which said that 77% of America thought politicians in Congress were acting like spoiled children during the debt crisis. Many people have said that they will not vote for any incumbents in the next election, and most are just fed up with the government. "But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and provide new Guards for their future security." This is paragraph 2, line 11 from one of the most famous documents in US history: the Declaration of Independence. Do you think that an American Spring will soon be upon us? Write your answer and why.

There's no need for any sort of American Spring outside of us just not voting the incumbents back in. The reason the Arab countries required a revolution was because they were stuck with their governments and were unable to kick the people in them out without something rash like an armed conflict.

If the economy doesn't get better than maybe later in time.

I don't think we really need a revolution or uprising, but we could definitely use to look over our government and make some changes.

Considering we dont have a dictator that we cant vote out no we dont need one. We just need different people in office.

I think that eventually the people will press for a new form of government, but the CIA will just reform ours like they did with many other governments and create a controled dictatorship. They'll stage a huge revolt so it seems like the people won the battle. The people will be satisfied with the change and won't care how it happened and they'll be happy for a while.

Hmmmm, well, an actual bloody uprising like the ones across the Arab states, would serve no purpose, but possibly a massive boycott of the election, or a turn to third party candidates?

lets hope so.

Erm, there is not one ounce of reasoning in that, whatsoever.

I don't think it's necessary at all. Americans can be unhappy with their government sure, but still get a lot more freedom than the countries mentioned. The government can never be perfect. We all have different views and there will always be a split, room for improvement and flaws within it. Every government is suffering at the minute. The economy isn't just bad in the states. The recession has affected the most of the world.

Sproos thought makes sense. I reckon there will be an eventual "boycott". More like numbers will severly decreased in voting, like they have done here. But you'll never get every single person to boycot it. Government lovers will always exist.

For how unstable the US was after the revolution (we even needed to change are government from under the Articles of Confederation to one under the Constitution, and barely agreed to do that) I'm surprised that more revolts didn't happen, especially early on.

That's why it has since been deleted. Most of partydevil's reasoning is some far-left anti-American hate spewing stuff, so I'm surprised that his comment here was so mild.

All that a revolution would do right now is make it worse for us. The majority of Americans have absolutely no clue how their government works. If we are to fix our country, we can't just decide not to vote. If we did that, the Electoral College would just vote for whoever the hell they wanted. What we should do instead is to actually vote for the people that we believe can actually fix the **** their predecessors threw everywhere. It doesn't matter what their party affiliations are, whether they are men or women, if they are black, white, Asian, Hispanic or whatever the hell, all that matters is whether they are fit for the job.

Look I'm not American, and I'd be lieing if I said I followed American politics closely at all; but from what I gather the problem is that no one believes that any politicians, whatever theri affliations actually have what it takes to fix America

You're right about that. Obama, who many saw as a 'savior', promised too many things and couldn't fix much, even when the needed majority of congress was on his side. Many look at what he said he'd do, how powerful he seemed, how little he did, and figure, "If he couldn't fix it, no one can."
