World War 3? Improbable. Only if NK invades SK is the most likely reason the US, UK, and EU would get involved. Russia, wanting to get on WE's good side, would probably aid the Union to show where its vices truly lie.
It could also be the turning point where Japan's military rights are given back if the situation is dire, i.e. China gets involved on the NK side. That is unlikely, however, back when NK fired artillery at a SK island earlier this year, China reprimanded its small Communistic ally. Even if war were to, the front of the most powerful nations of the Earth, The United States, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Australia, The Netherlands, and more, descending upon the Communistic East like a hurricane? World War 3 is likely to end quickly. Nuclear Winter would probably not be an outcome, China is smart enough to understand the concept of Mutual Destruction when it comes to Nuclear Missiles, but NK is a bit radical. Only time will tell.
if china is going to choose for NK then the usa doesn't dare anymore to help SK. anyway china is not going to choose side between the 2 koreans because china is the country that leads the peace negotiations between them.

What I was referencing was the fact that all SK-friendly nations would quickly work to avoid conflict between the two, and if NK was uncooperative then a good handful of the world's most powerful nations would get heavily involved, i.e. World War 3.
But again, it is unlikely. NK usually only does what China tells it to, and China knows not to get in a tussle with the USA, else they face the wrath of more than a dozen pissed-off powerful European nations. And again, the Ruskies and the Chinese never got along when they were Communist, one being Maoist the other Stalinist, and were quite viable war opponents. It would make more sense for Russia to finally prove itself to its Western neighbors that Russia is a competent nation (just like its been trying for the past 2000 years)
The only tension areas are NK-SK, India and Pakistan, and Africa if we feel like re-colonizing. [Last one is a bit of a stretch]. That's about it, I don't think anyone wants to risk a WW until we get Anti-Nuke lasers or some crap.

and why wold they do that? NK is smart enoufg to know they are to small to fight all the countrys at once. they are only trying to take SK back nothing els. and they do not even dare to start the fight whit SK because of it's allies.

so the war in afghanistan is a world war. there are a good handfull of the worlds most powerfull nations at work there. but still we don't call it a world war. because a world war is when evrywhere on the planet there is a war going on. (or atleast 1 compleet continent excluding australia)
Definition of World War: A war involving many large nations in all different parts of the world. So perhaps if Mexico invaded US at the same time as an NK/SK conflict, and the events were connected somehow (like NK promised Mexico money as compensation or something), then it would be a world war.
