well, those are definately not the best, now it is alive so... i would probably say.. maybe Jeff Beck? maybe Zakk Wylde? maybe Kirk Hammet? hard to find out, but those 3 are some of the best alive now
Angus young made great riffs Thunderstruck, great solos like Let There Be Rock, great chords like "Back in Black and he always had done a great live performance.
D*ck Dale. He's survived cancer twice. He's 74. He still plays. He is most famous for his rendition of the Greek song Misirlou, which was later used as the theme song to the popular film Pulp Fiction.
buckethead is probably not only the most skilled guitarist alive, but of all time, technically speaking anyways.
but other then the technical skill aspect, paco de lucia is the greatest guitarist overall alive. there really isnt and shouldnt be any debate. what he has done for guitar and music is absolutely Brobdingnagian. thats right i even used the "B" word. there is NO other way to describe how amazing he is.
He pushed the limits of his equipment, sometimes too far. He was the first guy to fast-pick a guitar. Even the biggest amps of those days couldn't handle his level of epicness and caused them to blow, so a company made a special transformer that peaked at 100 watts (the first in the world) and allowed for louder music which was later popular with hard rock and heavy metal. That new amp allowed him to be the first to crank up the volume to 10 (the average guitarist kept it on 4). He uses bigger strings (16p, 18p, 20p. 38w, 48w, 58w; the average standard electric guitar is 10 to 46) to give it a more percussive feel.
So basically without him, guitars would have stayed quiet, and music would've been completely different.
