You know according to my statistics and calculations there is no category better than the other that . Even the sports section as good as the popular TD games. Most people judge games by category, but we should judge by an individual game. People seem to like action games more than puzzle games, however Cut the rope, an apple ipad, ipod touch game is on 2nd place in top apps. Because it was the game-makers idea and imaginative creation that won the players hearts. So it is IMAGINATION AND IDEA that matters how good the games are. People love J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter, but will people like the same story idea written by another author? Definitely NOT! That is why we should judge games by how creative the idea it is. If it is a fun game but simple, fine, but we should see the features in the game that is different from the other games. Hence, we should also judge games individually not by category, because we never know if we could find a game that deserves 10/10 in puzzle games. I hope players agree with this point.
i have to disagree. many games are alot like other games and were awsome. about harry potter, yes id enjoy it. if its good written and have a different story it would be good. obviously there wouldnt be a reason to read it if its the same story. theres a difference between a similiar things and ripoffs.
take starfox adventures for example. im pretty sure most people call it a zelda clone. but i dont think i ever heard someone complain that its bad. its not the creativity that makes a game good (even though it is something that adds alot to it). its the good things about the game and it changes for different people.
a game that wins my heart has a great story and make me feel as if im part of it (not because of good graphics, im talking about actually trigger my emotions with the story).
some people care about gameplay the most and some care about graphics the most.
I think your idea will probably increase accuracy of ratings, but there is something I have to say about it.
People seem to like action games more than puzzle games
Each person has category preferences, which creates bias by category. AG seems to appeal to those that like action games.
Now that I think about it, you are basically ranting against category, which I do not agree with. Although accurate ratings are good, category should still be a factor in game ratings.
That is why we should judge games by how creative the idea it is.
You almost had me until you said that. What if the gameplay is terrible but, it was one of the most creative games out there? Let's say the game had many bugs would you give it a 10/10 for a buggy game?
Hence, we should also judge games individually not by category
I have never judged a game by it's category if I don't like the game I rate it what I think it deserves. If someone doesn't like that category I don't really see a reason why they are in it.
