We have it to protect us from nuts like this. Dear Dr. Laura:
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination... End of debate.
I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them.
1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?
2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.
4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath.Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?
6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination?
7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle- room here?
8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?
9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?
10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)
I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

We don't own Mexicans, we just make them work for minimum wage or less.
"...I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church & State."
Thomas Jeffersons letter to the Danbury Baptists Association in 1802.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."
First Amendment of the Constitution.
Much of the concept of the separation of church and state is credited to the work of John Locke.
Without the separation of church and state, the state has control over religion. Look at Europe during the middle ages. Wars were fought and there were state religions. You had no choice, and if there happened to be a new king of a different faith, you converted or you were punished.
Without the separation of church and state, the state has control over religion.
But then religion also has control over the state. Believe me, the medieval times went both ways.
We (should) have separation of religion and state because imo religion is something personal, and it should be kept personal. Beliefs should not have influence on politics other than through it's followers, politicians shouldn't be able to misuse their function for religious ends, and the state shouldn't be able to misuse religion for politic ends.

Yes, correct, an oversight on my part. When the church and state came into conflict, things got ugly. Often the church decided who would be king and the king would draw legitimacy from the church.
How does them holding a different religious belief change anything?
If they had different religious belief, then each one of them would have probably cut down any of the religious stuff that's occasionally shoved down your throat some times in school, so that would help the separation. I think because they're all Christian, they don't work on dividing the gap any further.
I had to try pretty darn hard in English last year thanks to a book about birds that was just loaded with Biblical references I had no knowledge about. It failed yo.
If you don't like it leave rofl >.> Nah really, I understand everyone's view on the topic. However, what do you expect for America? I mean what is the percentage for just Christianity in America? 70 something percent I think....
I understand the joke, and I will admit I smiled at parts. Of course, I don't see the point in all the crazy debate from it.
If you don't like it, try to change it. If you don't think you can, that is a you problem. If you don't want to change, good for you.
Religion is a messy subject regardless of what you believe in. (If you don't believe in anything, you believe in nothing is what I believe lol) It is kinda like abortion, it scares people into their side real fast.
Any who, my honest opinion is who cares? Life goes on regardless of what happens. I mean you might die, but the ants in your back yard might survive. (Oh em gee! I am a Christian, hand an abortion, and recently almost died.)
(If you don't believe in anything, you believe in nothing is what I believe lol)
If you don't hold any religious belief it doesn't mean you believe in nothing.

Let's say the country adopted a radical Islamic religious stance. Would you care then if your only options were to either convert and denying Christianity or die?
I didn't say anything about not holding any religion. Simple statement of if you don't believe in anything, you believe in nothing. Because what is not anything, it is nothing. Plus it is what I believe, and it can mean nothing.
I would leave? There are more options than excepting someone else's fate for you. Plus I am willing to die, because I might tomorrow. Either way, I am ready to stand up for myself. Might as well die for something I believe in, instead of nothing.
America is not a "Christian" state. Sure, there is a Christian majority, but there ore enough people of other religions out there to make this a "mixed religion" state.
That's why i get pissed off when people think that everything Israel does, can be used against Jews. Israel may be a Jewish state, but it is actually just a Jewish as America is Christian. Jews make up 76% of Israel's population, and Christians make up 76% of America's population, but nobody get's annoyed at Christianity when America screws stuff up.
This isn't a joke thread it's targeted nitpicking of the Jewish/Christian faith
Yes, because the Jews, with their strong 0.25% of the worlds population, and 1.7% of America's population, have so much influence. Not to mention that Jews aren't really allowed to preach to other people, because people aren't allowed to be influenced into joining the religion (a Jew actually need to try to dissuaded if they want to join).

That's also the reason why I get pissed off when Israel discards any criticism to their politics as being antisemitic. Nobody's blaming the Jews, just the politicians.

People are blaming the Jews all the time. I've had a few debates on this site that go like this
Them: Jews kill civilians me: wut them: Israel has killed arab civilian (ignoring the fact that their governments are using those civilians as human shields)
The Jew's are plenty blamed for Israel's actions. Either that, or if one person in the Israeli army does something stupid, like taunting some citizens, they've blamed Jews in general.
Just imagine if the Catholic Church was the boss and with the Pope as president. If u would ignore a stop sign you wouldn't get a warning. You would go to he'll.
