The manga released here is quite limited, but thanks to having an awesome library (and thank goodness for scanlations), I have managed to read a bit.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is quite good, however depressing it might seem (and the fact the manga has not been finished yet and all that). Huge robots fighting huge alien... beings, and kids piloting the huge robots is mainstream. Robots actually being beings themselves and trying to break free from the armour that restrain them is a whole other thing. And well, it was fitting for a teenage kid in the middle of the emo state.
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann was introduced to me by Strop. Another mecha manga, however in a whole other genre mood-wise. Everything is horribly optimistic and as stated several times through the series, if they have zero chance of success, they will succeed. Sadly, I have not been able to finish reading it, since the scanlations apparently have been discontinued (and I am but a poor, lowly student with no money to buy manga on Amazon). The anime is however recommended.
Dragon ball z used to be my favorite, because who doesn't love giant lasers, but then I started reading Bleach, and It's now my favorite because it has giant swords that shoot giant lasers. (also, Captain Yamamoto is definitely Master Roshi in disguise)
