The solar energy company that recieved over $500,000,000 in loans from the government has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy, fired 1100 workers without severence pay, and is currently being investigated by the FBI. This is another huge loss in our crippled economy.
How will this effect the views of alternative energy? Government loan, stimulus, and bailout policies?
This will definitly affect our view of solar energy in a negative way. It will make many americans hesitant on going green. But I guess this only means we wern't ready to handle solar energy yet. We need to find a way to make it so that solar panels are more efficent and the government should support it more. They should support clean energy in general more. I think it'll be pretty bad for our economy but I don't know much about that area.
I don't think it's to do with the energy source as such - it might have just been bad management, and maybe a new company can learn from their mistakes and introduce a more effective way to execute the change to green and handle their finances.
Now is the American firm bust? Or the worldwide firm? That would change a few things in my opinion i guess.
I believe they are only in america Jefferysinspiration since it started in California, but really this was a distater waiting to happen. Photovoltaic cells still cost more to make then you can sell them for, meaning even if you get 535 million dollars you cant run a business on it. I feel for the workers though as they receive no severance or back due vacation credit. Also the fact that tax payers lost 535 million dollars.
