Hello again AG! As most of you probably already know, I have made numerous threads about Israel, be it about their relations with Turkey, or whether or not the country should actually exist. Now it is time for the latest event, a vote in the UN on whether or not Palestinians will get their own country. The US has already stated that they would veto an attempt to become a full member state, but the Palestinians already have enough votes to become a non-member state, giving it access to the International Criminal Courts (to press alleged charges against Israel) and other UN branches. Please state your opinion on whether or not Palestine should be a country and if going through the UN rather than peace talks is the best way to do this.

Why is there a "rather"? If the vote is accepted, Palestina will be able to pursue the peace talks on the same eye level as Israel, country to country. This seems only fair ain't it? The thing with the int. criminal courts does have bad potential though, but that doesn't necessarily mean that Palestina will screw up everything only because they can.

Because the UN might grant Palestine East Jerusalem, which Israel really wants to keep. Should the UN do that, bringing Israel to the table without a condition of being given East Jerusalem as the result of peace talks would be very hard.
Do the boundaries of the future country have to definitely defined when granting the status, and is it possible to change the boundaries with the agreement of every involved party afterwards? If yes, Palestina could become a country with the courrent boundaries, and go on with peace talks to gain more land afterwards. Oh, and has the UN the power to simply grant east jerusalem to Palestina without the agreement of Israel? That would be strange.
