Hello out there! So there's not really a very graceful way to start this... Or at least, if there is, I'm failing miserably at it. This is just something I've been thinking on for a while, and lately I've gathered up enough ambition and motivation to actually dedicate myself, heart, body and soul (Well... dedicate myself as much as my school schedule will allow), to making a flash game. I've always been big on them, and I mean, why not? They're short, fun, free and a great way of procrastinating. The point and click kinds have always been my favourite. I'm a huge fan of the "Demon's day out" series, Submachine, 'Alice is Dead', among others (which I can't remember off the top of my head )
So, to cut this long, rambling tale short, I was wondering if anyone out there, be they game developers, artists, programmers or even just very dedicated players would know... What are the steps a newbie like me should take to getting her own ideas out there? I really want to develop a point and click, horror style game based off a story idea I have. While I have the basic sense of how I want it to look, and what puzzles I want players to solve, I'm having trouble solidifying my ideas. I'm wondering if there's a specific pipeline to follow; Should I write out the full script and then add images? Should I thumbnail scenes first? Etc. Basically, I'm really starting off on the bench here and while I do have some skills which I think would come in very handy (I'm studying animation and CGI. I do a lot of art and drawing and general story telling and I have some sense of how to get a project done once I have a jumping point), I'd really appreciate some good ol' advice
You'd receive better help in the Programming Help subforum; there are some programmers that frequently post in there and there are several threads that'll assist you. However, that place is rather inactive most of the time, so you'd receive better help on other websites, such as Kongregate, since they have a stronger developer community. Here's their developer forums.
