I'm not a big sci-fi movie watcher, but I did enjoy:
District 9
Alien (Series)
Predator movies
Jurassic Park movies
Terminator movies
Star Wars movies
The Matrix movies
Starship Troopers movies
.... and stuff like that

Avatar sucked... just saying. =]

District 9
Star Wars
Serenity(movie of Firefly series)

Those are the only sci-fi movies I have seen off the top of my head.

District 9, Inception, Avatar (how can you hate giant blue monkeys?), Jurassic Park, and Star Wars cause it's a classic.

Avatar (how can you hate giant blue monkeys?),

Because, using any logic, for them to look anything like us would require a close common ancestor.

Everyone knows we came from blue monkeys that evolved into a different color and developed wings out of nowhere and flew to Pandora and lost wings spontaneously and that's how humans came to be. =O

Transformers is considered sci-fi. Sci-Fi doesn't only have to do with space and aliens. It is anything that is set in the future basically. Anything that suggests what things are going to work out to be like.

na,if you went to blockbuster transformors would not be under scifi, its really under the catagory of action.

Science fiction is exactly what it says on the tin. Mainly contributed to anything involving the future, space and time travel, it is a genre known for trying to be as close to reality as possible, while still dealing with something that has yet to be possible in our reality.
Giant robots from space would be considered science fiction, no matter what blockbuster says.

And I have no fave, I do however loathe the film "Sunshine", that, after having watched it several times, still left me wondering what the heck was going on, why and how.
Thank goodness for the internet and its way of explaining things, but I still don't like it very much.

Probably, 2001: A Space Odyssey, its a really great classic. I especially love the depiction of space travel. Really good movie.

2001: A Space Odyssey

That was the weirdest movie ever. I still don't understand it. Hal is the only good part in my opinion.
