Hey. Friendly Neighborhood Satanist here. Yadda yadda yadda.
But in all seriousness, I have some news that you may/may not know about.
So we've all heard of Homefront right? That game that was supposed to be really good and sold really well the first week then tanked because it was the definition of a Cod-clone and put the FPS genre into a standstill so great and powerful that only the likes of Crysis 2 could pull the genre back into progress? Remember that game? It was the one where you shot Koreans instead of Russians or some Middle Eastern from an un-named Middle Eastern country.
Anyway, some time ago THQ announced that Kaos Studios, the copy-pasters behind Homefront, were dissolved and would no longer be making any more games ever again. But, Homefront 2 was announced. Odd. So I heard about this announcement of H2 and waited for the name of the lucky developer who would try his hardest to save the series. My pick was Raven, the father of the horrid FPS, but instead an incredibly surprising name came up as the future developer of Homefront 2, Crytek, the developers behind such hits as Far Cry, Far Cry 2, and CRYSIS 2.
Wow. Just so you all know, Crytek is known for its engine, the "CryEngine", a piece of technology only surpassed by DICE's Frostbite 2.0 in terms of technological capabilities. Considering how Crysis was considered the most revolutionary shooter of the PC, combined with the fact that Crysis 2 was able to save the FPS genre from the original Homefront really peaks my curiosity at how Homefront 2's gonna go down. It also makes me wonder if EA is going to co-publish with THQ on this one. Crytek is a sort of a "contract" developer for EA, they don't always make games for Electronic Arts, Far Cry is published by Ubisoft, actually.
So tell, how do you think this is going to work out? Do you really WANT a Homefront 2? Is your curiosity peaked as much as mine is, that the killer of the father now raises the son, metaphorically speaking?
Hrmmm... A supposed-to-be emotionally inspiring game based on war in the U.S from Korean Occupation... kind of like Freedom Fighters in story? Made by a fantastic company that has, as you said, one of the most powerful engines at its disposal that as you've probably seen in Crysis 2, is fully capable at presenting something in excellency.
Yes, I am curious to see what will happen, this is quite... strange to say the least - although I've little doubt in CryTek.
I'm more afraid for what the publishers will do. :/
