So with the recent releases of RAGE, Dead Island, and Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Your Friendly Neighborhood Satanist has come to notice a recent trend in First-Person Shooters, an adaptation of RPG elements.
I don't know how long this has gone on for, but the oldest example I can think of is a very slight adaptation of RPG elements in a 2006 game called The Darkness. It's mainly an FPS with an open-world, side quests, and powers that unlock over the course of the game. The only thing that can be considered "XP", the key factor of an RPG, is the energy acquired from devouring hearts, that when reaches a certain level, increases the longevity of said powers.
So, in loo of this new discovery, I've made a chart. Please examine, analyze, and criticize accordingly.
Explanations for the placements may come at a later date.
I think it's great. It mixes my stupid side "YAY THE HEAD EXPLODED!" with my OCD side with all the weapons and etc.
And COD is not an RPG, simply because you get new guns every level, all guns for the most part are the same in power.
You do not receive quests and very few things has to do with stats. In addition to that, you don't that follow a character in the multiplayer, and the campaign is nothing but a runthrough.

Exactly why its on the Shooter side of the chart. I was just emphasizing certain aspects of the multiplayer to understand that, yes, even Call of Duty looks to RPG's for elements that will make the multiplayer more fun.
