No he's right. Hitler fought for the Germans in WWI and was decorated with honour. When he heard of the German surrender in Nov. 1918, he was in hospital and didn't believe it. His hatred of the Treaty of Versailles led to his radicalisation of the German Workers Party into the Nazis. He hated Jews as he blamed them for the German surrender.

You're talking about the Dolchstosslegende (stab-in-the-back-legend), right? He not only blamed the Jews but also Communists and Socialists.

His hatred of the Treaty of Versailles led to his radicalisation of the German Workers Party into the Nazis.

He had a good reason to hate the treaty, because the treaty forced Germany to not only accept full blame for a war they did not start, but also to pay the Allied forces a ridiculous sum that they wouldn't even have managed to repay by today, which drove the nation into extreme poverty. This is also most likely why the German nation voted for the Nazi party, and supported it, because whether you like it or not, Hitler brought Germany out of poverty and was in fact a good leader for the first few years. Then he went (even more) bananas.

oh and by the way,he commited suicide.

That's pretty much common knowledge. That's about as impressive as knowing he had a funny moustache.

History just repeats itself. Hitler was the sad case of another (maybe more but this is the major one that I know) military and power mistakes. Like Napoleon, Hitler was a good leader that greatly improved his countries economy and schools but got power hungry. Then Hitler after starting WW2 turned on Russia, like Napoleon, and lost the war because of it.

that's it? and he commited suicide? really? i thought he was lurking around somewhere with Lex Luthor planning to take over the world. /sarcasm

i see this is another spam thread but if this managed to get a discussion...

well Hitler was rather likeable up until the people figured he was bat**** crazy and still thought he could win the war. Other than thathe was just another crazy dictator who did some amazingly idiotic and evil things

At the cost of scapegoating an ethnicity/religion and instilling feelings of superiority in rabid followers, forcing those who do not believe in what's happening as strongly to either stay quiet and keep their head down or attempt to leave. None of which are good things.

also "he" didn't lose the war

Germany lost the war, Hitler lost the war, The Allies won the war, it's all the same no matter how you say it.

Hitler was rather likeable

Most dictators are. I'm blanking on the word on what you call them, starts with a D and i'll probably remember after I submit this, but it's their personality that gets them to have followers.

i'll quote a bit out of his biographic:

His fellow soldiers did not like Hitler as he frequently spoke out about the glories of trench warfare. He was never heard to condemn war like the rest of his colleagues. He was not a good mixer and rarely went out with his comrades when they had leave from the front. Hitler rose to the rank of corporal - not particularly good over a four year span and many believe that it was his lack of social skills and his inability to get people to follow his ideas, that cost him promotion. Why promote someone who was clearly unpopular?

This is of course after he was in power. I meant that they usually have attractive personalities to get INTO power, not anything about keeping that power :P

I remembered! Demagogue. That's the word I was looking for.
