Hello. I have been playing Gemcraft Chapter 0 for month and saved my game several times. I recently upgraded my PC (motherboard+micropro+memory), then upgraded the OS to Windows7. I restored all my information from a complete backup. It restored information for mail program, iTunes... but I am back to level0 in Gemcraft. How can I recover my previous level (I still have a full backup of my HDD before the upgrades)?
I believe (I may be wrong), that the cookies saved from the internet, are saved in your systems registry. When you upgraded to Windows 7®, it erased your registry from your old Operating System. If i am right (remember, i may be wrong), you have no chance of getting your game save file back.
Cookies are stored on the harddisk, not in the registry.
Therefore, you might still have a chance of restoring them... Which browser are you using?
If it's firefox, locate the following folder:
"BACKUP FOLDER":\\Dokuments and Settings\\"YOUR USERNAME HERE"\\Application Data\\Mozilla\\Firefox\\Profiles\\"SOME WEIRED LETTER COMBINATION".default
Note that you might need to change your folder visibility to show hidden and system folders in order to access them.
Now locate your firefox default folder on your new system, and copy everything from the old folder into the new one, that should do the trick.
I've no idea if the path on Win7 is the same as on the old system, but you should find it somewhere (or just google it).
Same should work for all other browsers, I just don't know where they store the cookies, but it's definately on the HDD itself - try google for "where does chrome/IE/opera... store cookies" and copy it over your new profile.
