Love it, Hate it. Whats your pick. I love the movie, and to show you how much i love it, i've typed out the plot.
Here it is.
The movie opens with the main character Pete hiding in a swamp from the Gogans, his abusive foster family. The Gogans âadoptedâ Pete to work the farm for them even though they have two teenage sons. They then sing a song promising to be kind and to let him relax all the time. This is when weâre introduced to Elliot the Dragon, who protects Pete and is his only friend. Elliot pushes the Gogans into a mud hole, which causes them to give up search and leave. Pete lies down in a hollow tree for the night. The next morning he awakes to find that he is near an apple orchard. Pete and Elliot have a breakfast of roasted apples. Pete starts singing a song about Elliot They eventually make their way to the town of Passamaquoddy. Pete tells Elliot that he will have to turn invisible so that does not frighten the people. Elliot is resistant this, but eventually concedes. Pete walks into town and does some normal kid activities not realizing that Elliot is copying his moves and destroying various objects accidentally. Pete runs into the townsâ schoolteacher, who thinks he is playing hooky. Elliot retaliates by hooking her petticoat onto a nail, Pete tries to remove it, but the petticoat pulls off in his hands. The schoolteacher is furious, believing that Pete did it. Pete runs away only to have more run-ins with the milkman, farmer, and mayor. The rest of the townspeople come and tells them what they believed to be Peteâs doing.
Pete runs and hides behind some lobster traps. When the people are gone, Pete scolds Elliot for ruining his chance of making a good impression on these people. While he is doing this, weâre introduced to another main character, Lampy. Lampy is a lighthouse keeper. He runs into Pete drunk, as he talks with him, he notices Elliot. At first, he doesnât realize what he is looking at; he then comes to his senses and recognizes that Elliot is a Dragon. Elliot mimes being terrible and mean which scares the wits out of Lampy. Lampy runs back into the pub where sings that he saw a dragon. While he is singing, weâre introduced to another main character Nora, Lampyâs adult daughter. Nora has been mourning for her fiancé, Paul, who has been lost at sea for the past year. She is a headstrong woman.
Dr Terminus, who is a quack doctor, shows up in town even though he was ran out before. The townspeople go about complaining what his products did to them,but he convinces them to buy his products once again. His assistant, Hoagie, is approached by a drunk Lampy who offers to show him Elliot. He agrees, and they both go down to see Elliot, note they are both drunk by now, who is asleep. They find Elliot, but when Lampy starts to describe Elliot, Elliot is frighten, not knowing that it is he that Lampy is describing. Elliot then grabs the two thinking they like him, but instead scares them sober. Hoagie runs back Terminus telling him that dragon is real, but Terminus doesnât believe him until he looks in his book of âmedicineâ. He realizes that dragon parts have many âmedicinalâ value.
Nora agrees to take Pete in as family. She then decides that the needs to be school even though both Pete and the schoolteacher doesnât want him to be there. While Pete is there, Elliot starts acting up and the teacher blames Pete. Elliot then, believing he is protecting Pete, crashes through the schoolhouse and ransacks it.
Meanwhile, the Gogans return to claim Pete as their own.(Bill of Sale,). Elliot gets rid of the Gogans temporally by sinking their boat.
Terminus and Hoagie convince the Gogans to help him get Elliot and in return heâll help them get Pete. They agree to the plan. Terminus tells Pete that Elliot is on a rampage in town. Pete comes but is captured by the Gogans. Hoagies is recruited to bring Elliot, which he flatly refuses saying âHe hates me!â. He brings Elliot back to warehouse were Terminus captures him in a net. The Gogans tries to flee wit h Pete, but Elliot frees himself. Elliot then grabs the Gogans wagon, where he burns the Bill of Sale. Terminus tries to harpoon Elliot but gets his feet tangled in the rope, and gets shot through the roof.
Meanwhile, a storm has blown in and Paulâs ship is coming in. The lighthouse light is blown out by a wave and it canât be lit because the wick is wet. Elliot then tries to light it on fire but canât because he is squished by the stairwell. He eventually lights and the ship is steered to safety. It turns out that had amnesia after a shipwreck. Elliot tells Pete that he needs to leave to help another kid.
There is one coherent approach to the medium used in the movie. It was dubbed in Dolby Stereo sound. There is animation in the movie for one of the main characters, Elliot. This is all before CGI.
Pete is a ordinary kid. His purpose in the film is to draw the audience into the story purpose by getting the audience to emphasize with his plight. The problems he has as a character is that he is a orphan adopted by a abusive family. They have work the farm by himself without any help from them. He is s bright kid, but gets into trouble because of Elliotâs antics. Pete longs for a real family thatâll love him, which gets at the end of the movie.
The theme of Peteâs Dragon is the power of friendship and the importance of sticking with your friend. The major emphases is that is room for everyone if we make some room.
