It's difficult for me to pick a single movie and my list is far too long, but I enjoy a lot of films, preferably films made between 1970-2005 and some newer films.
I'm not a big fan of a lot of newer films because they appear to be the same thing to me; just movies with flashy special effects and barely any plot.
A recent film that I do like though is Law Abiding Citizen, it's definitely high up there on my favorites list.
Recent: Inception Western: Once Upon a Time in the West Animated: either Toy Story 2 or The Emperor's New Groove Action/Adventure: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Sci-fi: Star Wars IV Comedy: Monty Python and the Holy Grail Crime: The Godfather Part I Horror: Jaws War: All Quiet on the Western Front (1930)

I agree. Inception is the only recent one that stood out to me.
I think Inception is my favorite all around because it made me think. The worst part about my posting is that I agree with Palpatine in almost every way. I like Monty Python for comedy. But i think Toy Story 3 was better than the second.
I agree with Ghost that a lot of todays movies rely to heavily on CGI, sequels & remakes. This I guess is down to more financial reasoning on the part of the studios, the desire to make a safe investment without to many risks at the expense of originality & plot. There have been a few stand out jems for me in recent years though. As has already been mentioned, Inception raised the bar big time in visual effects but still had a gripping story to back it up.
The Hurt Locker was an excellent movie and proved that you don't need the biggest budget in the world to make a good show. Again, good story and was nicely balanced between action and dialogue.
I think the one field of cinema that constantly delivers is animation. Films like Rango, Despicable Me & Toy Story (well anything by Pixar to be honest) have all had me enthralled and wanting more.
And to end on a contentious note...........
A Nightmare On Elm St, the re-make......... Must say I actually quite liked it! *can hear the sound of pitch forks being sharpened* lol
Has anyone seen the animated movie Spirited Away. That is probably my favorite animated movie. There really hasn't been any movies that stand out to me this year. Really the only movie that I enjoyed so far this year was the Tree of Life. It's pretty hard to follow though.
I LOVE "Across the Universe"! I thought it was amazing!
calebsi- "Spirited Away" is one of my favorite animated movies! I am always amused when I watch it that the girl who voices the main character is the little girl from "The Ring". :-P
1. Monty Python and The Holy Grail 2. Planes, Trains, And Autombiles 3. Die Hard 3. Live Free or Die Hard 4. Dumb & Dumber 5. Get Smart 6. 30 Minutes or Less
Angles in the Outfield, i used to watch it like everyday. i also really liked Monty Python and The Holy Grail(your mother is a hamster and your father smells of ella berries)
I agree with Ghost of not being able to pick a single movie as my favorite. In general, I like sci-fi and fantasy more than anything. Star Trek and Star Wars are one of my favorites. I like Get Smart a lot, too. Any movie with Steve Carrell is got to be funny (did I spell his last name right?)! -ISB
Star Trek and Forrest Gump. If you haven't seen Forrest Gump yet, get off the computer, go rent it or buy it, and watch it. I'd tell you the message and what it was really about, but that'd take too long.
Spirited away is definitely one of my favorites. But Moulin Rouge (Baz Luhrmann) and Pulp Fiction are also near the top. I agree with the most of you, I can think of many movies I really like.
