I like Starwars games and I've taken a look at this one and it'll probably be good. I won't get it for two reasons though.
1) The graphics will probably be too much for my poor little laptop to live through. 2) A monthly payment is many times more expensive than a single time payment. I'd much rather pay $50-$60 for a good game than $5-$10-$15-$20 a month. I cycle through my games and a monthly payment just isn't worth it.
I've been testing the beta this weekend, and I really like it. The questing is far more interesting than in other games, mostly due to the fact that when you pick up a quest, you actually have a fully voiced conversation with the NPC, with choices to make that may influence the outcome of the conversation and how the quest is completed.
However, one problem with this is that these conversations take time. In, say, World of Warcraft, you could just run into town, grab all available quests and be out of there in five seconds. You wont be able to do that in SW:TOR, which is fine if you find the conversations interesting (which I do). However, I'm guessing this will make it rather annoying for those making new characters, who've already done the quests before.
Also, one feature in this game that was neat was that you can get a companion to follow you in battle. Based on how you solve quests and the decisions you make, this companion can gain or lose affection for you, sort of like in, say, the Dragon Age games.
I really think the questing in this game matches that of a single-player game, something MMORPGs rarely manage to do.
I'm considering getting this but not sure if i wanna do the p2p thing. Already got xbox live and don't use that enough as it is. Plus i could save my money for useless things.
