Certain events in history have such huge impact that we remember exactly where we were and what we were doing when they happened. Think of one such event and tell about it on here.

I distinctly remember finding out about Osama Bin Laden's death. I was home in my dining room. I was on facebook and saw a post about Osama being killed. I flipped on the TV and turned it to the news; sure enough Osama was killed by Navy SEALS. It was late at night and I yelled for my mom to "get down here". I remember seeing the college kids in Washington DC going crazy in front of the white house. My mom was pretty much in awe.

I mentioned it in mine, and I understood at the time as well (3rd grade) but I still don't think that it's "that" world changing. What I consider world changing is like the discovery of electricity, or computers, etc. Things that have affected nearly everything we do and continue to do so.

Well, considering it started a war in Afghanistan, I would say it sorta changed the world a bit...

Since the OP stated we should recount events we were alive to witness, technological developments don't really come into this question. Not unless you are much older than you try and makeout. I doubt many people on here were alive or old enough to remember the rise of computers of the internet which is really the only world changing development by your criteria that has occured in recent memory.

I would also like to bring up the revolts in Egypt and indeed the whole Arab Spring. The first democratic revolutions in the Middle East since the supplantment of Western backed dictators generations ago. This is made all the more relevant by America's involvement in the aforemntioned war on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan.

9/11 I was in the living room with my mom who was crying because the news station was saying there were planes crashing into buildings. My uncle was supposed to be on a plane coming beack from Spain at the same time these things happened, so she was freaking out.

When Michael Jackson died, I was in the kitchen. I got a text from my friend saying R.I.P. Michael Jackson, so I went to the den and turned on the news, and sure enough he had died.

When I found out Osama bin Laden was killed I was in school. I found out later than everyone else haha.

Well, I was 1 at the time, but for the people on Balkan it was pretty major. 1991, when Yugoslavia fell apart. Agh, I wished I can remember more about Yugo, but my 1st year of life isn't that vivid in my memory.

And also, probably 9/11. I was in the US when it happened, it was pretty scary. It's kinda blurry in my mind though, can't really remember 2001 that clearly

For sure 9/11. I wasn't that old, but I remember everyone in my house walking around in this kind of half daze. My mom took me aside and told me what had happened, but it didn't really make all that much sense. Still, looking at those images on the TV was disturbing, and scary.

I'm not even american, but I clearly remember what I was doing the 9/11. I was in the living room watching a movie and I changed the channel. Then, I saw the tower on fire and I couldn't believe that was actually real. Shortly after, the tower collapsed. I can assure you I will never forget that.

I must agree that 9/11 just blew my mind! I couldn't believe the buildings fell!
