forgot to mention... i am using flash cs5 & AS2

I think that's a really cool idea. I'd be down for it if I used CS5 and/or I knew any AS2. (I've only been working with AS3). What license are you releasing the source under when it's done?

I don't need a lot of credit, I'll probably list the usernames of the people who helped and make it a creative commons.

I might be willing to help if you want to send me some info on what you are trying to make.

You can use DAME to create your levels.

I was going to upload it to armor games when it's done... to do that it needs to be a .swf, and flash is the only program that can export in that format.

I don't program, but ive got some solid ideas for levels and enemies, escpecially bosses. Is there anything i can do?

If you're working on an opensource project, why don't you use svn? This way everyone has the most up-to-date files, and everyone who would like to participate can

(ie. google code uses svn)
