^ Man, I thought I was an addict because I play up to six or seven hours a day on weekends, that made me feel a lot better about myself.

Peeps are a delicious Marshmallow treat, and are too busy being devoured by Your Friendly Neighborhood Satanist to be addicted to video games.

Oh- OH! You meant "Peeples", OH!

Mah Bee.

Games are mentally stimulating and, when done correctly, are the most enjoyable form of entertainment that stimulates more parts of your brain than any book, song, or movie. Sometimes its just a matter of Skinner Box techniques, sometimes its just a die-hard fan, but games just have a habit of entertaining people for hours upon hours.

Game Addiction is a tragic, tragic thing, but can be easily avoided as long as if the smallest degree of mental control is applied. Sure, I definitely have spent more money and time on Games than most others, but it's because I'm a Game Enthusiast, someone who takes a more intellectual view at Games. This gives me an escape to the "Game Escapism", allowing me to hold onto a bit of reality so I don't get totally sucked into my virtual worlds. This idea that there's a world outside Azeroth (an example, I've played WoW before and mean no hate) sometimes eludes certain gamers, causes Game Addiction, and, as the link has proven, can sometimes lead to tragic consequences.

Games are supposed to be just that, Games. Sure, I can talk all I want about how they're "Art" and have far more "weight in the entertainment industry", but at the end of the road, a game is for fun, and fun stops being fun, no matter the game, after any period of time, so do yourself a favor and go to that camping trip with your friends. Your Guild can wait, there's some memories to make outside, memories that will be etched into your actual body that you will never forget.

Want to know what's an addiction? South Korea and Starcraft II. There were rumors/reports that the government declared the day it came out as a national holiday. I'm not sure whether it's true, but here's an article that does show how addicted those folk are.

Oh, and more nuttiness by the Koreans here.

Sample:

Not only do Korean pro gamers rake in the dough, but also national attention. 120,000 people gathered live in a stadium to watch a 2005 StarCraft championship--over 40K more than attended the Super Bowl that year.

They're measuring their speed in "actions-per-minute," the number of times in one minute they can move a unit or do something else in the game. In that video, one gamer talks about how at the top levels you need about 300 actions-per-minute. That's five actions per second.
