I was wondering if any of you would have advice on the subject. If you find a virus, and then delete it from your computer with a security program, are there any further measures you should take? Does it depend on the virus?

i dont like virus. I think that the best cure to a virus is prevention! Get a virus scanner like norton or mcaffe and protect your computer!

Well I have a virus scanner, but it didn't find any of them until I did a full scan.

Most small viruses like adware require a system scan, but anti-virus programs usually catch the bigger and stronger ones. Also when you delete a virus you might want to do a second scan to make sure it hasn`t duplicated itself.

Everything seems to be running ok now, but I will do a second scan when I can. I have a friend who is gonna come over and look at what I had and do a clean sweep of my computer.

And I don't think they were anything large.. just pop-up causing ones and the like.

You should also consider getting a spyware scanner like spybot of adaware, most small threats easily evade norton of macaffe, spyware scanners are good for adware and keyloggers.

Finally something i know about

There is no way to entirely protect yourself from viruses other than:
- having a unix based OS
- not having an internet connection

however the best you can do is download the following programs which are antiviruses/antispyware
-SUPERAntiSpyware
-NOD32
-HijackThis!

That's all i recommend, if you're like me and you're tired of getting virused though, i'd just recommend getting Ubuntu 7.10 or Mac OS X. Hope this helped

Does your computer automaticly scan itself every day? Mine starts every day at midnight. Then in the morning it tells me the results and I shall hit you with my stick. I somtimes do another scan when I visit a new site i haven't been to before.

Not really. If the virus gets deleted your computer should be fine.
