As part of a new Gamasutra feature, the co-founder of Star Wars: The Old Republic developer BioWare promises that continuous development will continue on the title as its creative director assures it's his only priority.
"Unlike a lot of other game companies that, once they launch a game, downsize their teams radically, our plan is to keep the team together and continue to focus on building content," says James Ohlen, creative director on Star Wars: The Old Republic, which launches this week.
"There's no secret project currently being done in the Austin studio," reveals Ohlen. "We're very much focused on Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars for the foreseeable future."
BioWare co-founder Greg Zeschuk agrees with Ohlen. "It's hard to say right now what we may or may not do as far as future projects. We're really busy working on future SWTOR content as well as continuing to improve the service. This will never end." __________________________________________________ __
For all the people that love this game, this will be a good thing. For all those haters....not so good. If you pay by month this game is $180 a year. If this game last for another 20 years thats going to be $3600....****. But 20 years isn't FOREVER! Would you guys rather seem them work on new content for the next 20 years, work on new content for 10 years and then work on a new game, or just start developing a new game after 5 years?
Personally I would want to see them develop a new game after 10 years. If a game is great 5 years is too early for people to stop playing.
If they are interested in a particular franchise, then so be it. They will lose the money of those people not interested in the game, as they are not putting out other titles, and if they believe they can earn it back by feeding all the fans, there is no logical reason not to continue. I also see no reason why any haters should find this to be a bad thing. They can just, you know, not buy any of the games. There is no one out there standing with a gun to your face to buy the games or subscribe or anything, or even show interest in these projects. Sure, some people would like new titles from the developers, but on the other hand, this continuous update one one franchise in particular might mean they use their free and more fun time thinking up some new ideas for other games, which might end up even better because taking a break from the Star Wars franchise to develop the new game means it is made out of interest and some kind of love for the idea, which in turn ought to make the game that much better.
theyre getting a lot of money from it. prob thats the reason to make it a "series" type of game. well, the game is awesome imo. why they would stop making it? :3
