It all started as a gimmick by Sears in 1955. Kids could call in to a Sears store in Colorado Springs and ask where Santa Claus was. When the ad's were printed, there was a misprint and the number the kids were calling was to NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) and asking where Santa was (LOL). Anyway, the Colonel on duty at NORAD, told the staff to tell the kids where Santa was (just make something up probably). The tradition began in 1958 and has continued to this day.
I think it's brilliant. I found out recently, but it is something that kids look at and believe.
I never had anyone to help me believe as a kid, and mine are so excited, and thanks to NORAD, they are asleep and waiting for Father Christmas to come with their presents for being good.
Should also thank Royal Mail for being willing to accept the Father Christmas mail we put in the post about 4 weeks ago. Without them it wouldn't have been as believable to the kids.
