I have a question. Today, I was bored, so I went on youtube to watch MW3 walkthrough missions (Even though I don't even play the game). While I was watching it, something kept popping up; it said "Press 'X' for AK 47 with ACOG" or "Press 'X' for P90." But then I got confused, since why would you be carrying around an assault rifle along with two other automatics? Any answers?

More firepower, want to use those weapons along with the others, don't want a terrible pistol/secondary in case something bad happens, etc.

Uuuhm I believe you can only carry two weapons. But it is just because, imagine this : you are under fire and there is a bomb behind you and 50+ enemys in front of u, the sides are blocked. Then if u would have the m16 and u would take time and headshot, but miss a few u could get 29 kills. And then instead of reloading and getting killed, you switch weapon and shoot the remaining soldiers with a AK-47.

You have two weapons at max on mw3 when it says hold x for a gun it means it is on the floor and you can pick it up you can hit y to change from your primary to your secondary he doesn't have 3 guns when it says hold x to pick up a gun it's just saying there is a gun on the floor you can swap for your current gun.

And having a smg with an assault rifle is useful for when at close range you can use the smg and at long range you can use your assault rifle

But this is assuming you're high enough level to use the Overkill perk that allows you to have 2 primary weapons.

Also using this perk takes away to use other perks such as blast shield or hardline.

because if you have two weapons you are more versatile. you could have a sniper rifle and an smg or an assault rifel and an smg

and you can also switch between weapons faster than reloading in some cases so in the event that you run out of ammo but you have another enemy on your screen, you can swap and start spraying

He's talking about missions, not online, and also, even with Overkill you can pick up other weapons.

Anyway, people do this simply for more firepower, or a better weapon, etc.

If they arnt comfortable with the weapon in the situation they'll switch, or just bigger and better firepower

They're powerful and quick so if one runs out of ammo you can use another.
