The beatles are a classic band and are probably the greatest rock band ever to be in the massive genre that is rock. what they have done for music is truly a blessing.
with this said, my top ten favorite artists are all modern artists accept for Rush.
I'm not a fan of the Beatles. They're certainly one of the most (if not the most) influential bands of rock, which is my favorite genre (if you count metal as a subgenre). There's quite a few classic bands I like, but I like more modern bands. So I think the question should be classic or modern music, and I would say modern.
You caught yourself there Roccess. "Most" is the keyword. It is very apparent in the Beatles' later works such as the "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", and the "Magical Mystery tour" album used quite alot of instruments on their tracks. "Strawberry Fields Forever" included many woodwind, brass, and stringed instruments. Same with alot of the Beatle's music around that time. They literally went form being a rock and roll band to an experimental songwriting hippies. As you can see on my profile, I'm a huge Beatle's fan as I've been for 3 years now. Their compositions and authentic rock, psychedelic, and skiffle sound will always top today's music. Lennon/McCartney was the biggest selling and most successful songwriting act of all-time and will continue on into the future. Paul McCartney however is proclaimed by the world to be the best songwriter in popular music ever. On top of that, the Beatles were the biggest selling rock act of all-time. Alot of success usually indicates that a band is good. And heck, nobody today could ever reach the amount of success the Beatle's have. The only other rock band that came close was Led Zeppelin, which they too were also a decent band with some good songs.
This is far to broad of a topic to really work as a thread. 'Modern music' can refer to anything in the last 20 years. Which includes (but is not limited to): Metal, techno, trance, nu-metal, grunge, rap, pop, industrial, hardcore, screamo.
See why that is a problem?
Besides, either you like the Beatles or you don't like the Beatles. It's a fairly black and white topic.
