Basically: You can't search for users. You either know their username, or you won't find them. As for that example, I would assume you are referring to people with name_othername the underscore, which can lead to problems, as the site doesn't always recognise it as a sign. Of course, if you are going to use the url, you will have to be sure to spell the username right as well, otherwise you might not find the person you are looking for.
And you were sure that was his AG username and not, say, a name he had taken to play? SSL might not recognise underscores as underscores, but rather as spaces too.
